Balanced middle class transformer
Acer Spin 3 SP314-51 is an excellent middle-class transformer, in which the affordable price has almost no effect on the quality of the gadget. Except that instead of metal, plastic was used in the production of the case. However, you won’t notice this offhand, since the plastic feels high-quality to the touch, and the assembly is strong.
High contrast 14" display
The touch IPS display of this model has a diagonal of 14" with a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels. The matrix leaves a pleasant impression, but not without nuances. On the one hand, it has natural colour reproduction and a fairly high contrast ratio (1200:1), which makes the picture on it look, as they say, juicy. On the other hand, the 220 cd/m2 brightness margin seems to be quite limited, which makes the readability of information from the display worse in sunny weather and in bright light in general.
Performant hardware
The Spin 3 SP314-51, while not a performance champion, has a really balanced layout. The heart of the transformer is an eight-core Core i5 of the latest generation of Intel chips (maximum frequency 3.4 GHz), paired with an integrated Intel HD 620 graphics card, 8 GB of RAM and a 256 GB SSD drive. Such performance is enough for study, work and entertainment, and the integrated graphics card will allow you to play the "big" games of the past generation. Plus, there is an M.2 connector for installing an additional drive.
In terms of peripherals, the laptop looks rather ascetic: a pair of USB 3.0 ports, one USB 2.0, HDMI output and a card reader. USB-C, which has gone from being a luxury to a necessity, is not. From the means of protection, only the Kensington lock, the fingerprint scanner was not delivered.
Extremely comfortable keyboard
But the built-in speakers play quite loudly and with high quality. It is all the more surprising that this is not a third-party development from the conditional JBL, but Acer's own speakers. It is also worth praising the responsive touchpad and comfortable backlit keyboard with soft key travel. It is really convenient to work with them.
The picture is completed by a rather tenacious 4605 mAh battery, which is able to live from a single charge up to 10 – 12 hours.
