No Frost

This system is definitely more convenient — once turned on and forgotten, no exhausting defrosting. Unless the shelves need to be washed as they become dirty, but there is no getting away from this anyway. Such refrigerators provide a more uniform temperature in the freezer. And in the event of a power outage, they keep the cold better, and then restore the desired temperature regime faster (however, a lot depends on the specific model).

But, unfortunately, there were also disadvantages. So, No Frost dries products, which means it worsens their taste qualities. Meat stored in the freezer for too long after cooking resembles rubber.

In addition, such refrigerators produce more noise during operation, and even when the compressor is turned off. There are obscure crackles and rustles that can scare the user unfamiliar with such features of the new refrigerator. And the No Frost system itself is more complex, which means less reliable.

However, are all these disadvantages so terrible? After all, products can be stored in packages or packages, especially since in most cases they are sold that way. Consultants in stores sometimes intimidate gullible users by telling them creepy stories about the need to store all products in No Frost only using sealed packages. But in fact, everything is not so terrible, a simple plastic bag is enough, tightness is not required here (unless, of course, you plan to store products for a long time, which is not desirable at all). The drying process does not happen too quickly, for a couple of days the products can be put like this. By the way, dehydration of food is inevitable in refrigerators of any type. It's just that in No Frost, drying takes place a little faster.

The noise level is not as high as it is sometimes described, the Soviet refrigerators "Orsk" and "Zil" rattled much louder. In addition, a lot depends on the layout of the apartment, if the kitchen is far enough from the bedroom, then nothing will interfere. It should also be noted that a good No Frost can be several times quieter than other low-cost models of refrigerators with automatic defrosting.

As for reliability, modern equipment is generally assembled with sufficient quality. Well, the probability of "running into" a marriage is always present, regardless of the type of system chosen.

Another thing is that No Frost refrigerators are more expensive and often consume more electricity. So in some cases it is better to buy a model with automatic defrosting, but with a larger volume. Which is important if a large family lives in the house.

Automatic defrosting

The vast majority of modern refrigerators use the so-called drip or "crying" system. Periodically, the compressor turns off, the accumulated ice thaws and drops (from where the name came from) flows into a special container. Then the water accumulated there completely evaporates again. That is, the whole process goes unnoticed by the user. However, all this does not save from the need to carry out manual defrosting once or three times a year.

However, is it so scary? After all, the main thing is that modern models do not require running with buckets and rags every month, and once every six months you can be patient. By the way, it is also advisable to turn off No Frost sometimes and let it "settle" (so—called sanitary defrosting), however, much less often - it is enough once every two or three years.

Refrigerators with automatic defrosting for the most part work noticeably quieter. They do not contain additional contours, which means they are somewhat more reliable. But the most important thing is that their cost is lower (including the cost of operation, most of these models consume less electricity than No Frost). Namely, the latter can be a decisive factor when buying.

In addition, refrigerators with automatic defrosting often have a slightly larger volume of internal compartments. The fact is that the No Frost system itself is quite massive and takes up a lot of space. In some cases, the difference in volumes can reach 20% with similar external dimensions.

Conclusion

You should not "bother" too much with the weathering of products, the problem is more far-fetched than real. Another question is the economic feasibility of the purchase. Models with automatic defrosting are cheaper and usually consume less electricity. The latter is quite important, because the refrigerator is purchased for many years. As for the defrosting procedure, then once every six months you can be patient.

However, if the financial issue is not very acute, then you can safely buy yourself No Frost and forget about defrosting as such. This is the perfect solution for the lazy.
