The technical characteristics of all models from the review can be compared in the table. Self-selection of the best acoustic systems for your car, motorcycle or even yacht can be carried out in the catalog autoacoustics.

EDGE ED209

The most affordable model in the review, which also has the most striking and remarkable design from the entire selection. The sound of the speakers is no less bright, as evidenced by at least numerous high—frequency bands — there are three of them here, and together with the oval midbass — four.

The speakers are made in China (as well as most of the acoustics in general), and the roots and the official warranty from the UK. It is not so important where the speakers are assembled, it is important how they are assembled and how they sound in the end.

EDGE ED209 sounds loud enough (sensitivity 90 dB) and sonorous. They have more bass than any 6-inch speaker, but slightly less than the more expensive 6x9-inch models. The claimed range of reproducible frequencies is from 45 Hz to 20 kHz. Usually, the lower the cost of a set of acoustics, the greater the difference between the claimed and audible frequency range. Therefore, it is better to determine this parameter yourself by ear.

In front of the orange polypropylene diffuser there is a large stand with mylar tweeters: one large and two small. The EDGE ED209 has four visible emitters. The first frequency band (emitted by a large oval diffuser) is from 45 Hz to 10 kHz, the second is emitted by a large tweeter, whose capacitor filters out frequencies below 2 kHz. The third, duplicated by two small tweeters, starts somewhere from 10 kHz and above. That is, it turns out that according to the frequency distribution, the acoustics are still 3-band.

The stated rated power of 100 watts is designed for an external amplifier, but you can do without it, the radio will also pull these speakers. The protective mesh is hardly protective, it is more decorative, so the back shelf should be clean. Garbage should not fall into the gap between the tweeter rack and the diffuser, this can damage the sound coil, after which the speaker will first wheeze, and then stop playing altogether.

Pioneer TS-6939R

The Pioneer TS-6939R has three diffusers and the same number of radiation bands that are on the same axis, which is why they are called coaxial. The diffuser is plastic, but this does not mean that the sound will be plastic. No, the sound is very lively. At the same time, the plastic is durable and moisture-resistant, which is very important for automotive conditions.

In the centre of the diffuser on the rack stands a large foil tweeter. In 3-band acoustics, it is called a midrange, because it plays slightly lower in frequency than a regular tweeter. From above, a small "squeaker" is covered with a phase-leveling disk that improves the angle of sound directivity.

The range of reproducible frequencies is the widest among all the models in this review — from 27 Hz to 27 kHz. It cannot be said that Pioneer is deceiving when talking about such frequencies. It's just that this parameter can be measured in different ways. However, users on the web note that by ear the range is perceived, of course, as narrower.

This model can play low frequencies powerfully and dynamically, depending on the quality of the installation, the design of the rear shelf, the size and shape of the car interior. The main advantage of the model is high sensitivity — 92 dB. Users note in the reviews that they are really very loud by ear. This is only a plus, because a power amplifier with such sensitive speakers will give less distortion.

The rated power of the Pioneer TS-6939R is 90 watts, but the peak power value is indicated at 500 watts, i.e. it is unlikely to be possible to break them, but it is better not to try. The recommended nominal value of the amplifier is from 10 to 150 watts.

The kit includes two lengths of thin acoustic wire of 5 metres each, they will be enough for the power of the radio, and when voicing with an external amplifier, thicker cables with a cross section of 1.5 or 2.5 mm will be needed./2. The complete safety net performs the function of design more than protection.

Sony XS-GT6938F

The Sony XS-GT6938F uses the same diffuser material as the Pioneer ovals described above, only Sony named it differently — HOP+ACFM. It is great for car speakers, because it is very light, which allows you to make the speakers more sensitive, which means they are loud. And at the same time, it is quite rigid, which provides a low coefficient of harmonic and nonlinear distortion, the sound becomes cleaner.

The speaker is 4-band, but if you look closely, you can notice that two small tweeters that are on the sides of one large one are identical and reproduce the same frequencies. It follows from this that this set of oval speakers is rather 3-way, like the first set in the review.

The first band is an oval midbass, the second is a central midrange or large tweeter, and the third is twin super tweeters, "super" because two diffusers are always louder than one. It's hard for one small squeaker to "shout" in volume to the midrange and midbass. Installing two such squeakers solves several tasks at once: increases the volume of the tweeter and increases the visual number of bands for pre-sale advertising passport data.

The range of reproducible frequencies is slightly more modest than that of the previous Pioneer, but still unrealistic. Users note that the kit reproduces low frequencies not very deeply, but quite richly, rigidly and dynamically. The middle of the frequency range is a little embellished, but it is perceived easily and vitally. There is nothing to say about high frequencies, because they are practically not heard from the driver's seat.

The long—playing rated power is 85 watts, and the short—term peak power is 550 watts, which is the highest figure in this review.

Hertz DCX 710.3 Price from 3 480 up to 3 820 ₴ →

Another Z-band acoustics, this time from the respected Italian company Hertz. The name of the company is directly related to acoustic sound, as it is known, "hertz" is the measurement value of acoustic frequency. The DCX 710.3 belongs to the entry-level Dieci series. But a company that knows how to make high-quality expensive speakers is not expected to be able to make low-quality acoustics even in its simplified low-cost series.

First of all, let's pay attention to one of the main disadvantages of the model — the increased size of the speakers. 7x10-inches, they simply cannot be installed in some regular places without modification . When cutting into the rear shelf, the size does not matter, but to install in an already prepared place from the factory, you will need to alter the regular place. At the same time, such a minus can eventually turn into a plus, because a larger diffuser boasts a higher sensitivity (93 dB), can play lower in frequency and reproduce deeper bass.

Paper (cellulose) is a material with excellent acoustic properties that affect the impulse characteristics of the speaker and other parameters. To protect against moisture and weather temperature changes, special moisture-resistant impregnations are used to stiffen the paper diffuser. In the DCX 710.3 model, the impregnation also has damping properties.

Two tweeters located in the centre of the oval diffuser. If the task of a large paper tweeter with a diameter of 60 mm is clear and, frankly speaking, audible by ear (it reproduces the upper frequency range), then the work of a small 15 mm super tweeter is practically inaudible, according to users on the network. It is quite possible that he performs marketing tasks. This is how it is accepted in low-cost series of ovals.

The range of reproducible frequencies starts at 40 Hz and is theoretically possible for such large "lapukhs", but Hertz acoustics is famous not for the depth of the bass, but for the quality and purity of the low frequencies. The upper edge of the range is 21 kHz, it is quite capable of a small dome super—tweeter, but how loud can it do it?

Despite the fact that the model belongs to the younger Hertz Dieci series, it is still recommended to sound it with an additional power amplifier with a nominal value of 100-200 watts.

The included protective mesh covers the entire speaker completely. The holes in the grid are not the smallest, it was made by the Italians on purpose, because any grid slightly degrades the sound quality.

Alpine SPG-69C2 Price from 2 130 up to 3 162 ₴ →

The most expensive and advanced model in this review and at the same time having the least number of lanes. The Alpine SPG-69C2 has only two frequency bands, but they are quite enough to reproduce the necessary range for a pleasant perception of music.

In this model, the claimed frequency range is the closest to audible — from 65 Hz to 18 kHz. Yes, it is narrower in comparison with other, cheaper models in this review, but this is only according to passport data. In fact, the SPG-69C2 is perceived by ear as the most bass in this five!

Belongs to the "G" series, an intermediate series between the low-cost line "E" and the advanced "R", a kind of golden mean in the combination of price and sound quality.

A distinctive feature of the model is the plastic basket of the diffuser holder (usually it is metal). The advantage is that, firstly, it is absolutely not ringing (which is positive for sound quality), and secondly, the plastic basket is lighter, which is important when installing speakers in a flimsy rear shelf. It is very important not to accidentally drop them with such a basket, because it will most likely not be possible to glue them together as it was.

In front of the diffuser in the centre there is a compact body of a high-frequency receiver. The silk tweeter itself is not the smallest — 27 mm in diameter. The smaller body of the tweeter is a plus, because it obscures the radiation of the oval diffuser less, but the large body of the tweeter creates an inverse reflected sound wave and distorts the sound.

The sensitivity in this model is slightly higher than the average for ovals, but they are among the loudest in their price range. The rated power of 75 Watts indicates the versatility of the Alpine SPG-69C2. They can be used both with a magnetic amplifier and with an additional, more powerful amplifier up to 150 watts nominal.
