The temperature sensor is simply an indicator of the water temperature. If you select 90°, it will not automatically turn off at 90°. Inside the teapot are red markers for 1, 2, or 3 cups of water, which are very subjective and don't match the size of any of my cups. The water level indicator window is hidden behind the handle, and with condensation it is difficult to see how much water is inside.
