Samsung SGH-i400 became one of the first smartphones of the company based on Symbian OS. Often this smartphone is evaluated by knowledgeable people as an analogue or even an imitation of popular Nokia smartphones operating on the basis of the same operating system. However, Samsung is already a fairly well-known brand with a fairly large fan base.

Although a smartphone is unlikely to impress you with its revolutionary novelty of solutions, it is exactly what you should give money for. There is a 2.3-inch display, a 2 megapixel camera, both Bluetooth and USB connections are supported. In addition, i400 can work with EDGE technology, which theoretically supports Internet speeds of more than 480 Kbps (actually, no mobile phone provides such speeds, but the claimed EDGE indicators are just that). At the same time, the smartphone is compact, beautiful and made in a fashionable `slider` form factor.

Technical features:

Samsung SGH-i400 is made of high-quality coloured plastic. Some Samsung models are streamlined to disgrace. This smartphone is not one of them. It is distinguished by a slight `squareness`, however, not particularly conspicuous. The front panel is encircled by a glossy metal-like stripe, on which fingerprints seem to show by themselves. The screen is also prone to this trouble - in general, it is strongly not recommended to touch it with your fingers. Although it is unlikely to avoid pollution, as is often the case with modern sleek smartphones. Characteristically, the smartphone is a classic `slider` - with auto-finishing and, therefore, a soft mechanism, easy to use.

• About the keys - only good things. The buttons on the navigation block are quite rigid. The numeric keypad is nothing supernatural, however, it is a high-quality solution without any defects. At least if the smartphone is not used too actively.
• In addition to the volume buttons, camera buttons, etc., the side panels of the i400 have a slot for microSD cards (cards up to 4 GB in capacity are supported), and a miniUSB connector.
• The display in the Samsung SGH-i400 is, to put it mildly, standard. It supports a good resolution of 320x240 pixels, displays up to 65,000 shades of colours, but is virtually helpless in sunlight. This is quite inconvenient in many ways - for comfortable work, you will literally have to specifically look for a shadow, to increase the brightness, you need to change the settings, which, of course, will lead to battery overuse.
• However, the i400 uses a relatively good battery - 950 mAh. With an average load, the smartphone will work for three to four days. Of course, if you use it to send one SMS and one phone call per day, the i400 will last a lot longer.
• Unlike early, `trial` Samsung smartphones based on Symbian OS, the i400 runs the new Symbian 9.2. The popular (among many manufacturers and users) interface S60 (third version) is used. This one (with its own modifications) likes, for example, Nokia.

Player:

Actually, there are several of them - MP3 player, Flash player, RealPlayer, etc. You can install other versions if you wish - this is a smartphone. The MP3 player supports playback of MP3, AAC, AAC+ , e-AAC+ files. Management is quite normal, but could be more comfortable.

Camera:

• Of course, 2 megapixels is 2 megapixels. Too small for a real camera, but normal for a phone. You can only take pictures with the body open, there is no flash, no autofocus.
• You can shoot with different resolutions - from 320x240 to 1600x1200 pixels. The `white balance` is adjusted, the image quality is set, the exposure can be measured. There are other, smaller, but no less useful functions like the `night` shooting mode. Video can be shot both without sound and with it. There are only two preset resolutions - 176x144 and 352x288 pixels. In general, quite good for the Internet and home use. Recording in H.263, MPEG4, RealVideo, WMV formats is supported.
