Pectoral crosses

Cross

— the pectoral cross is originally one of the symbols of belonging to the Christian faith. The rules for wearing it may be different in different denominations, however, in the most common Orthodox tradition we have, there are quite strict canons regarding such a symbol:

— The cross must be consecrated in the church.
— The cross must be carried with you constantly, from the moment of baptism — including in the shower or bath. At the same time, there are situations when it is allowed to remove it from the neck — for example, when practicing contact sports, or if the cross does not fit the jewelry worn with an evening dress. However, in such cases, you still need to keep the cross with you — for example, pinning it with a pin to the lining or sewing a small pocket on the inside of your clothes.
— The cross cannot be worn over clothes, flaunting. This is why such a symbol is called “wearable”, because it should be adjacent to the body. In addition, the church considers such wearing as a manifestation of pride. Of course, this rule does not apply to beaches, baths and other similar situations — when the cross is on the body, and there is simply nothing to hide it under, there is no suitable clothing on the person.
— About what to wear a cross on — on a thick thread, leather cord, chain, etc. — there are no strict rules. Here you can proceed from considerations of style and practicality. For example, chains look the most elegant, but they break quite often.

Of course, the cross can be worn as a regular decoration. However, doing so is still not recommended: sincerely believing people may perceive such an accessory as an insult.
