Allows you to connect both expansion cards and drives — mostly quite advanced and high-speed SSDs (it makes no sense to make hard drives for PCI-E for a number of reasons). Specifically, in NAS servers, this interface is usually used as an auxiliary one, in addition to the more traditional SATA 2 and/or SATA 3 (see the relevant paragraphs): the main set of disks is connected via SATA, and an SSD drive is installed in PCI-E to speed up the work server or an expansion card that provides additional features (for example, a sound card or Wi-Fi adapter).Note that the PCI-E connection can use a different number of lines — mainly 1x, 4x or 16x (this number directly affects the data exchange speed). The compatibility rule here is this: the connector must have at least the number of lines than the connected component. However, NAS servers usually do not have problems with this — they mainly use rather "unpretentious" PCI-E 1x boards that are compatible with connectors for any number of lines.
