Optane
— laptops with at least one solid state SSD module belonging to the Optane series. This can be either the only storage provided in the device, or an addition to another type of drive — most often to regular HDD.The general features of all SSDs are detailed in the corresponding item in the "Drive Type" list. And Intel Optane is special series of such drives, which has number of differences from most other similar solutions. The main of these differences is that the memory cells in such modules are organized not according to NAND technology, but according to 3D Xpoint technology, with “three-dimensional” cell layout. This provides number of advantages: in particular, this layout allows you to access data at the level of individual cells and do without some additional operations, which speeds up the work speed and reduces delays. In addition, such memory is much more durable.
The main disadvantage of Optane is somewhat higher cost. It is also worth noting that the superiority of such modules over more traditional SSD modules is most noticeable with the so-called low queue depth — that is, with small load on the drive, when small number of requests are received at the same time. However, most everyday tasks (working with documents, surfing the web, relatively undemanding games) are implemented in this mode, so this moment can be considered an advantage, especially since Optane's superiority, although it decreases, does not disappear with increasing load.
