Gorilla Glass laptops
Gorilla Glass
— laptops that use Gorilla Glass as display cover. This is special glass that is highly resistant to impacts and scratches and is very transparent. Thus, the presence of such coating has positive effect on the strength/durability of the display itself, and on the picture quality. On the other hand, Gorilla Glass is noticeably more expensive than more traditional materials, and therefore is used mainly in fairly advanced solutions – in particular, ultrabooks and transformers (see "Type").Nowadays, you can find different versions of Gorilla Glass, which differ in their features. Here is their brief description:
— Gorilla Glass v3. 2013, high scratch resistance, relatively weak impact resistance. Initially developed primarily for smartphones, it is rarely found in laptops.
— Gorilla Glass NBT. The “laptop” analogue of Gorilla Glass v3, released in the same 2013, has no fundamental differences.
— Gorilla Glass v4. 2014. Emphasis on impact resistance (twice as high as that of its predecessors), scratch resistance has decreased slightly.
— Gorilla Glass v5. 2016. Further development towards increased impact resistance. Guaranteed resistance to drops from height of up to 1.2 m and an 80% chance to survive the “flight” from height of 1.6 m without damage. Scratch resistance has not changed.
— Gorilla Glass v6. 2018. Doubling the strength made it possible to increase the guaranteed impact resistance to 1.6 m with single drop and 1 m with multiple drops (up to 15 times with minimal interruptions).
— Gorilla Glass DX. Same 2018. Coating designed mainly for smart watches and other compact gadgets (although it is also found among laptops – in some 2 in 1 models). It features increased transparency and anti-glare, which allows to reduce the actual brightness (and power consumption) of screens without compromising picture quality.
— Gorilla Glass v7. Gorilla Glass v7 protects your laptop screen from bumps, drops and scratches. This generation promises an increase in drop resistance by about 150%, and scratch resistance by as much as 200%.
