Dragon Ball is one of the most famous and extensive series of manga, anime and related products nowadays. The original manga alone ran from 1984 to 1996; based on it (as of early 2022), 4 anime series were shot (two traditional and two sequels to them), as well as more than twenty full-length animated films. Based on the 16th-century Chinese classic Journey to the West, Dragon Ball's story is heavily inspired by Hong Kong martial arts films. According to the story, a guy named Son Goku travels the world in search of seven magical artifacts — Dragon Balls, which, according to legend, are able to fulfill the wishes of the owner. During his travels, he experiences many adventures, as well as battles with rivals and villains who also want to get to the Dragonball.

As for the specific series of games, it is also extremely extensive and at the same time quite diverse. You can even find digital collectible card games here; however, fighting and action games with role-playing elements remain "classics of the genre" for Dragon Ball. As of early 2022, the newest game in the series is Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot in the action-RPG genre; it was released in the early 2020s on all major gaming platforms. In addition to it, it is worth mentioning the Dragon Ball FighterZ fighting game, where the player controls a team of 3 characters (2018), as well as Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 in 2015, which combines all three classic Dragonball genres: action, RPG and fighting game.

Separately, it is worth noting that the creator of the original manga, Akira Toriyama, continues to take part in the development of the franchise. In particular, it was he who created some of the original characters for Dragon Ball FighterZ and Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot.
