The advantages of GSM communication is the absence of distance restrictions — it is enough that the car and phone stay in the coverage area; the disadvantages are the additional costs for communication and the delay of the signal when it passes through the mobile network. Therefore, the GSM module is relatively rarely used as the main communication channel — most often it complements the control from the key fob and is responsible for rather specific functions (like calling the driver).
