Action cameras with Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi

— the built-in Wi-Fi wireless module can be used in two ways: direct connection with external devices (smartphone, tablet, laptop) or Internet connection. The most popular functions of such a connection are remote control of the camera from an external gadget, using this gadget as a remote screen, uploading footage to an external device or directly to the Internet. In addition, cameras with an online streaming function have appeared relatively recently, which can also use Wi-Fi (for more details, see “Capabilities”).

Note that remote control can also be carried out via Bluetooth (see the relevant paragraph). However, Wi-Fi has two advantages over it: the ability to broadcast video live and a communication range of up to several tens of metres. The downside of these advantages is higher energy consumption.
