To simplify the understanding of which model is in front of you and how it differs from others, our material on decoding the labeling of Samsung refrigerators will help. You will understand what is hidden under previously incomprehensible letters and numbers and learn to quickly recognize the key parameters of each model.

Let's look at what a typical labeling of a modern Samsung brand refrigerator looks like using the example of a popular model of the middle price segment Samsung RB37J5225SS stainless steel .

1 — Group of devices
R — Refrigerator. The first digit says little, because all the brand's refrigerators are labeled this way. It is needed only in order not to confuse the device with a device for another purpose. For example, in the labeling of Samsung washing machines, the first letter will be W — Washer.

2 — Refrigerator type
B, L — freezer from below;
T — Top Mount or freezer on top;
R — refrigerator with one door;
S — Side-by-Side freezer on the side;
H — Side-by-Side freezer on the side with a double door;
F — French Door or four-door refrigerator;
W — the device belongs to refrigerators for wine.

3 — The total useful volume of the refrigerator
Denoted by a two-digit number in decalitres or cubic feet (ft³). For European market models using the metric system, you just need to add a zero to the number.

4 — Year of development of the line
Shows the year when the models of the line were put into production. Do not confuse with the year of manufacture. When developing the line, the fundamental principles, technologies and design features are laid down, taking into account current trends with an eye to the near future. Therefore, for example, you can see on the market a model made in 2020 from a product line developed in 2015.

A — 2008;
B — 2009;
C — 2010;
D — 2011;
E — 2012;
F — 2013;
H — 2014;
J — 2015;
K — 2016;
M — 2017;
N — 2018;
R -2019.

5 — Series index
Just the serial number of the product. The larger the number, the more "modernized" the refrigerator. For example, external displays appeared only with the release of the 5th series, and starting from the 6th series, the units began to be equipped with such a fashionable feature as handle illumination.

6 — Design and type of control
The three numbers following the series encode the design features and controls of the refrigerator. In older models, a letter designation was used for this.

The first digit of the three-digit designation shows where the display is located and characterizes the type of door handles used:
0 — internal display, hidden handles;
1 — internal display, hinged handles;
2 — external display, hidden handles;
3 — external display, hinged handles;
7 — internal display, hidden illuminated handles;
8 — external display, hidden illuminated handles.

The second digit of the design triumvirate of marking reveals the presence in the refrigerator compartment of a folding shelf, a Fresh Zone, as well as a shelf for horizontal storage of wine and bottles of drinks:
0 — separation of the freshness zone;
1, 2 — wine shelf, freshness zone;
3, 4, 5 — folding shelf, wine shelf, freshness zone;
6 — folding shelf, freshness zone compartment.

The third digit indicates the energy efficiency class of the refrigerator, or simply its economy. The existing classification of Samsung refrigerators takes into account that most modern models belong to efficient solutions that have the letter A in the class designation. At the same time, models are produced up to class A +++, which have the lowest annual energy consumption. You can learn more about the energy efficiency classes of household appliances from our article.
0, 1 — compliance with class A+;
5 or more — compliance with classes A ++ and A +++.

7 — Colour
The Korean manufacturer offers the widest selection of colour and decorative finishes for refrigerators, which, due to slight shades of one colour, is even difficult to systematize:
2A — mirror;
MR — black mirror;
RS, SR, US — stainless steel;
PN, IH, IS, SS, SR, INOX, INOX2 — stainless steel imitation;
5H, XW, X4, 7F, S4 engraved stainless steel;
PS, TS, SL, SA, SH, MG, X4 — silver, silver grey or steel;
WW, WP, SW, WG, 1L, 2A — white, milky white;
VB, EF — beige;
XB — brown (coffee);
UT — purple;
ZL, TL, DP — bronze;
BC, BG, 2C — black;
B1 — graphite;
2C, 2B — black with glass door trim;
1L, 1J — white with glass door trim;
5K — steel door with glass trim;
9M — burgundy with glass door trim.

8 — Country or region
This characteristic, indicating the region or country for which the refrigerator is made, is not found in all models and is not required. However, it would be nice to know before buying which climate zone the model is intended for, because the refrigerator is designed for certain working conditions, and the compressor must meet the standards of local electrical networks. The country/region designation is two letters followed by a slash after the model's colour code:
UA — Ukraine;
WT — Russia;
EU — UK;
EF — France, Spain, Portugal, Poland;
ES — Italy;
EK — Turkey;
EG — Germany;
ML — Israel;
AA — USA, Canada;
EM — Mexico;
PE — Peru;
AZ — Brazil;
BG — Argentina;
SA — Australia;
NZ — New Zealand;
TL is India.

And now it's time to find out what is hidden behind this mysterious marking of a particular model of homemade goodies keeper Samsung RB37J5225SS stainless steel taken as an example:

Refrigerator with bottom freezer, total internal volume 370 L, model belonging to the line developed in 2015, series 5000, external display, hidden door handles, wine shelf, freshness zone, energy efficiency class A ++, colour — stainless steel imitation, region of operation — France, Spain, Portugal, Poland (Europe).

These characteristics, which we managed to decipher from only one line of the model marking, allow us to evaluate the main features of the refrigerator and make a preliminary choice.
