Fuse
— a device that prevents accidental discharge from a weapon.In revolvers (see "Form factor"), this function is extremely rare. This is due to the fact that the very design of such weapons effectively prevents unwanted shots. So, when the trigger is not cocked, a significant effort is required for a shot on the trigger, and besides, the trigger stroke is quite long (and some manually cocked revolvers do not shoot at all); cocked the hammer usually means immediate readiness to fire. However, there are exceptions — in such cases, the role of the fuse is usually played by the same slider that opens the drum latch.
In turn, in pistols (including starting ones, see "Type"), fuses are just very popular. Their design may be different; usually, it is the same as in the combat weapon from which the pistol is copied, but exceptions are possible. The most popular version of the fuse is a manual, flag switch, switchable with the thumb of the shooter's main hand. There are also more specific options — for example, a movable ledge on the trigger, which is characteristic, in particular, for Glock pistols: this ledge does not allow a shot to be fired until the trigger is pressed in the right way.
In conclusion, we emphasize that the presence of a fuse does not eliminate the need to strictly observe safety rules when handling weapons.
