The LEGO City series is one of the oldest and still popular. It is presented by designers on the topic of transport and architecture, which perfectly complement each other, thereby forming a vast LEGO city. And the most beautiful set of the series, perhaps, is the Fire Station 60110. The constructor provides many interesting operating elements: an unwinding hose, a fire pole for quick descent, a retractable ladder by car.
The building of the fire station consists of several sections: garages for a large and small fire truck (both of them, by the way, are sold as separate constructors), a landing pad for a helicopter, as well as a three-story guard on duty for firefighters, which are attached as many as five figures. Four firefighters are dressed in modern fire–retardant equipment, and the depot chief — as a tribute to history, in a rare copper helmet.
In addition to firefighters, there are two more figures in the set – a Dalmatian service dog and a hot dog seller. Fortunately, emergencies rarely happen in the LEGO city, so firefighters have enough time to have a snack and relax on a chaise longue, the role of which is performed by a tool to simplify the disassembly of the constructor.
An alternative. An excellent replacement or vice versa addition to the fire station will be Lego Police Station 60047 . There are even more figures in it: four policemen, one of whom is a woman, three criminals and a shepherd guard dog.

A separate LEGO series called Friends is designed specifically for girls. The top of the design idea of this series is the designer of the Heartlake Grand Hotel 41101. The ancient two- and three-storey building, taking into account the roof, evokes memories of the comedy film "The Grand Budapest Hotel". The building even has a working elevator with a porter porter.
Another interactive element of the building is the revolving front door. In the summer heat, hotel visitors are invited to relax in the rooftop pool or in the bar near the outdoor stage in the courtyard (with a microphone and a real grand piano). They arrive and leave the hotel in a classic British Austin FX4 taxi.
In addition to the porter-porter, there is a figurine of a receptionist in the set, as well as three figurines of female visitors to the hotel. And of course there were pets – a grey striped kitten is attached.
An alternative. A good economical alternative to the "Grand Hotel" will be Lego Pop Star Tour Bus 41106 . The set includes a tourist bus with everything necessary for a musical concert and three singer dolls.

The medieval Castle knight series was temporarily removed from the LEGO catalog (to be returned again with pomp a few years later), and its place was taken by the techno fantasy Nexo Knights (LEGO's own franchise). Most of all, this LEGO series resembles the universes of the board games Warhammer Fantasy Battles and Warhammer 40,000, only devoid of excessive cruelty.
A combination of heavy knight armor, cold weapons, magic, demonic creatures and futuristic technology – this is Nexo Knights. The Fortrex 70317 set is a huge tracked construction with a bridge rising on chains, which also unfolds for convenient access to the interior.
The fortress is accompanied by three figures of Nexo knights, a demon and two of his small minions, as well as a funny robot in a chef's hat with a frying pan, whose role in this techno-fantasy universe has remained a mystery to me personally (is he good or evil?). There are also two flying scooters and a wheeled motorcycle with wide tyres (like Batman).
An alternative. In contrast to the knightly "Technocrep", the set of Lego General Magmars Siege Machine of Doom 70321 from 4 600 up to 9 249 ₴ is dedicated to the demonic villains of the Nexo universe. In addition, this siege engine is capable of transforming from a vertical tower into a horizontal ram.

The classic LEGO constructors of the "Star Wars" universe, frankly, are tired. Well, there is no gloomy and pretentious cosmosage of cute LEGO minifigures and that's it. Therefore, they were replaced by new large figures of "Star Wars" characters. The series includes all the significant heroes and villains of six old films and two new ones, including the only recently released "Rogue One".
The first candidate for purchase, of course, is Darth Vader 75111 (he is also Anakin Skywalker, who turned to the dark side). Of course, this designer cannot be called a perfectly accurate copy of the film character, the designers had to go to many conventions. Nevertheless, the figure has been worked out quite carefully, and many of its details have not been found in LEGO designers before (head, shoes, a large cloth cloak). You can only complain about a lightsaber – it's kind of short.
An alternative. Being the most popular designer of the series, the figure of Darth Vader is quite expensive. They ask half as much for a Stormtrooper (Lego First Order Stormtrooper 75114 ), a less significant, but not a little less inherited character of the cinematic universe. However, the individual details of the Attack Aircraft are half as much.

Children often complain that they don't have enough LEGO parts to bring all their creative ideas to life. And if there are plenty of sets of multi-coloured building blocks on the market, then the choice of designers rich in figurines is small. The record holder among them, perhaps, is Fun in the Park 60134, which includes as many as 15 characters. Fifteen! And that's not counting the dog.
In fact, the set consists of only figures with a small number of elements of a recreation park like a bench, a table, a carousel and trees. There are no buildings or self-propelled vehicles typical of other sets of the City series. However, this designer is very inexpensive, and in terms of the number of figures – mere pennies, so it's a sin to complain.
An alternative. One of the relatively new LEGO series is Minecraft, based on the computer game of the same name, beloved by children around the world. Actually, Minecraft is called the LEGO constructor from the world of video games. The main rarity and dignity of the set Lego The Dungeon 21119 are the cubic heads of the figures.
