Regular color printing was needed for representative documents, so we got it for our small office. For regular but relatively small volumes of color printing, this solution is excellent. It has been working for about eight months, during which time we have refilled the color ink once, and recently refilled the black ink tank for the second time. I love equipment like this—quiet, reliable, efficient, and predictable. Excellent print quality is what you always expect from Epson, and this model does not disappoint. Both black and white and full-color printing are impressive in its performance. The print speed is not high, but sufficient. Regular black text is produced at a speed of 6-7 pages per minute, color text and simple graphics at about 3-4 sheets. These figures relate to standard quality printing. For text, this is more than enough, but for full-color photorealistic images, it is preferable to enable the high-quality mode. This increases ink consumption but makes the image denser and more contrast. A 10x15 photo in this mode takes more than a minute to print. But the most important advantage, of course, is the built-in CISS (Continuous Ink Supply System). It eliminates the main drawback of inkjet printers, which is the high cost of prints due to the expensive cartridges. The small paper input tray, holding 50 sheets, tends to run out rather quickly. Like any inkjet printer using water-soluble inks, the print quality heavily depends on the paper quality. On cheap and loose paper, ink droplets spread, failing to provide a neat outline. Therefore, it's best to print representative documents on smooth, dense paper starting from 120 g/m2. It looks absolutely splendid on IQ paper at 160 g/m2, but the price of such paper can be steep. At 73 kopecks per sheet, it's quite a bit, especially considering ordinary office paper is nearly four times cheaper. |
