12 Zen 2 multi-threaded cores, 64MB L3 cache. The PCI-E 4.0 controller provides 24 lines of this interface.

The processor with 12 cores and 24 threads belongs to the advanced Ryzen 9 Matisse line, in which AMD has collected its best mid-2019 solutions designed for the mainstream Socket AM4 platform. The CPU is the carrier of the Zen 2 microarchitecture, created using a 7nm process technology. In the base mode, the core clock speed is 3.8 GHz, and due to the Precision Boost 2 technology, it increases by 800 MHz, reaching 4.6 GHz.

The AMD 3900X BOX processor also received an unlocked multiplier, which leaves room for experimentation for overclocking enthusiasts. The advantages of the model include increased to 64 MB cache memory of the third level, support for the accelerated version of the PCI Express 4.0 bus and DDR4-3200 format "RAM", which allows you to assemble a high-performance and omnivorous computer. The heat dissipation of the CPU reaches 105 W, and the included Wraith Prism cooler, supplemented by RGB LED lighting, is designed to protect the system from overheating.

Before buying, think carefully, "what will you use it for?"

I took 2070s, asus tuf gaming x570 and ryzen9 3900x for assembly. If I could return the time, I would most likely take intel. I can’t say that the percent is really bad, it’s just that its advantages are rarely used in my tasks. Multithreading is good for rendering, but for modeling and games it gives very little because these processes are usually one or two threaded and simply run into 1 core. I changed the wraith prism box cooler to a noctua because it is quite noisy and in the tests the percentage gave out 95 degrees right from the threshold. It also didn’t work out adequately to overclock the RAM (kit 16x2 corsair vengeance 3000mhz), the maximum that I got was 3200 by 17. Although reviews, articles, a ryzen calculator, etc. showed completely different indicators. As a result, in RAM latency tests, it shows a value of 75ns (in Intel, this value is two times lower). Even if we assume that very bad dies were caught, then for good ones this value would be in the range of 63-65, which is still a lot.
-Number of threads
- At the time of purchase was a little cheaper than competitors
- Relatively small tdp
-High RAM latency, actual factory loc infinite at 1900mhz
-Weak boxed cooler
- Comparatively bad for single-threaded tasks

Review refers to 3900 (WITHOUT X)
A very light stone. Specifically, my copy was well downvolted + let me play with the boost. Could work with 3800 memory, but IF let us down, didn’t want to go above 1800, otherwise WHEA bus / interconnect, which could not be overcome. To say that the loss is big will not work, so everything is very worthy. Single-core performance (and performance in games) at the level of 8700K-9900K (keep in mind that 9900K is 500 MHz faster in the cores, and everything immediately becomes clear and understandable. For those who are "in the know", of course)). That and, in principle, this percentage is somewhere between 9900K and 10900. Those who like to write about large delays, open Zen Timings, observe desynchronization in UCLK / MCLK / FCLK, beat ourselves on crooked hands and delete inaccurate comments. A big hello to those who put a peer-to-peer opera to such a process - guys, don’t assemble computers, not yours) Buy it ready somewhere in a foxtrot, don’t torture yourself and others). Also hello to lovers of "water", I'll tell you a secret that almost any medium-low-cost air will cope with this process (I had Dark Rock 4, but something cheaper with similar efficiency is possible. At the same time, my PBO limits were higher than those of 3900s).
The overclocking that on the screenshots was the intermediate results, the final ones, alas, are not at hand now. I gave the system to a friend, it was a pity to sell (As a result, single-threaded performance turned out to be at the level of 3900x, and multi-threaded performance was even better than that. Boost for all cores 4200, stable 4450 per core
Good performance, absolutely everywhere and in everything. For the money that it SHOULD cost, it would have no analogues. But..
1) The marketplace broke the philosophy of this processor, because it was supposed to cost significantly less than 3900x, and at the same time be better (in the right hands), but this did not happen. In fact, they were either the same, or the difference was meaningless. There are very few of these processes, perhaps this somehow influenced ..
2) A lot of inept users who manage to "strangle" the percent, and then go to the comments ..
3) Requires a good memory. Good does not mean the coolest and most expensive. Finding now for sane money a two-rank opera that can in 3600 cl16 is not a problem at all. Everything that is not two-rank in games very noticeably stifles the percentage, because there is a huge L3 cache, you just need to organize the pumping of the processor with data .. Zen cores are quite smart, by themselves
4) Requires a mother with a good feeder. Good does not mean that you need to take an expensive and overclocker uber, just a good one.
5) DISGUSTINGly worked on Crosshair 6 Hero x370, stability was not included in the chat. Moving to the B550-A Rog Strix solved every single problem, the flight was perfect. This applies to the process insofar as, but just for information

Long live the king!

The 3900X processor with 12 cores and 24 threads belongs to the advanced Ryzen 9 Matisse line, in which AMD has embodied its best practices. Besides the fact that this is one of the most powerful processors on the market, it is also attractive because it runs on a regular AM4 socket, like most other AMD chips. Recall that the record-breaking powerful AMD "stones" of the past generation belonged to the Threadripper family and worked with expensive and rare motherboards based on TR4 logic.

Old logic in a new way

Together with the new Zen 2 microarchitecture, AMD presented a new topology. Processors are no longer a monolithic crystal, but are assembled from several components. This allows the company to offer new powerful chips with 12 and 16 cores within the old Socket AM4 ecosystem. Each such chipset combines two CCX-complexes containing four cores and 16 MB of L3 cache. Given that the Ryzen 9 3900X is a twelve-core processor, it is constructed from three semiconductor crystals at once. All this, instead of using the Zen 2 architecture, allowed AMD to make the processor omnivorous and almost universally high-performance: it performs well under almost any kind of load. Detailed application testing has shown that AMD's new mainstream flagship is much faster than the slightly cheaper eight-core i9-9900K and, moreover, often outperforms even the 12-core Core i9-9920X, the official price of which is $1,200, but for which in stores from — for the deficit ask for much more.

Not for enthusiasts

Now for the disadvantages. AMD was in a hurry with the release of this processor and literally rewrote drivers, changed overclocking-power consumption ratios and updated firmware for socket AM4 literally on the go. All this resulted in a strange situation that, being an enthusiast processor, the 3900X began to behave strangely as soon as you climbed under the hood: either the arithmetic performance between cores changed, or it simply did not respond to changes in BIOS frequencies or voltage increases. As a result, it turned out that its stable frequencies are 4.7 – 4.8 GHz. Powerfully and stably, only memory overclocking is kept here. It turns out that out of the box the processor works like clockwork, just turn on XMP and you're good to go. For overclocking, you need to either wait for a stable firmware, or wait until the Ryzen 9 3950X goes on the market.
