Tomahawk has made a name for itself in the manufacture of car alarms. At the same time, the brand's portfolio includes other automotive "things", in particular, a combo registrar with the Indian name Apachi.

Quality build

The device combines under one wing the functions of a traffic video recorder and a signature radar detector. The device is assembled in a L-shaped form factor with a horizontal orientation. The materials of its manufacture are dominated by matte plastic. The controls of the Tomahawk Apache are placed on the side faces, which takes some getting used to. A bright spot on the side of the device is a red button to activate the recording and stop the video.

Developed ergonomics

From the rear, the DVR is equipped with a 2.7-inch screen without touch input support. The menu is displayed on it in the form of a "tile". The model is attached to the windscreen by means of a vacuum suction cup. The power supply of the device is provided from the on-board car network via a 2-metre-long wire. In case of emergency situations, a backup power supply of the recorder is provided from its own rechargeable battery with a capacity of 500 mAh.

A high resolution

Video is recorded on the device in a maximum resolution of 2304x1296 pixels with a frame rate of 30 fps. Also available to the user are FullHD (1920x1080 pixels, 30 fps) and HD (1280x720 pixels, 60 fps) video recording formats. The write cycle to the microSD card lasts 1, 3 or 5 minutes. The DVR perfectly "sees" the numbers of oncoming and passing cars in the daytime and handles well with the obligations shouldered on the shoulders of transmitting high-quality video at night.

Optimal balance

In the radar detector mode, the brainchild of Tomahawk easily "catches" radiation from the lion's share of speed measurement systems, including low powered tripods. When capturing a police radar, the device displays on the display the distance to it, the type of device and signal strength. In parallel, on-screen notifications are duplicated by a pleasant female voice. The DVR monitors stationary complexes, relying on a pre-loaded base on GPS satellites. In order not to once again be distracted by the screen while driving, alerts about exceeding the speed limit on the current section of the path are also given by the light indication of red, yellow and green. The balance of price, quality and functionality of the model is one of the most attractive combo recorders on the modern market.
