Amazon eBook readers are like Mercedes in the automotive world. If you buy Amazon, you can be sure that you will not regret buying it and it will work for a long time. This is probably the best screen of all possible options for modern electronic ink. It didn't make any revolution and an inexperienced user will most likely not see a difference at all, but a techie like me immediately noted the increased resolution of 1448x1072 (which is about 300 dpi) and improved contrast. In principle, the old models had enough contrast for me, but it's always nice when the picture gets at least a little, but better. But the backlight has become noticeably better: brighter and more uniform. One of the reasons for the purchase is mechanical buttons for turning pages. For oldfags, this is a must-have, definitely. But the innovations in the design of the case are ambiguous. The different thicknesses of the left and right sides of the case take some getting used to. The cover with a built-in battery is also not bad, but I often used book readers even without a cover, but here it doesn’t work like that. But with the cover, autonomy is excellent. The extremely common FB2 and EPUB book formats cannot simply be uploaded to the reader, they must first be converted to AZW. As far as I understand Amazon, this is their flagship model. But, even if we take into account the manufacturer's maniacal desire to bring everything online, 4GB of memory (3 GB available to the user) looks somehow pathetic for a flagship. I would like to automatically adjust the brightness of the backlight. |
In the spring of 2016, the Oasis model pushed another flagship representative of the American company, Amazon Kindle Voyage, from the top of the e-book hierarchy. A more recent version outperforms its counterpart in design, backlight brightness and the presence of an accelerometer on board the device.
Extraordinary appearance
The appearance of the reader turned out to be very extraordinary: the thickness of its body varies from 3.4 mm at its thinnest point to 8.5 mm in the area of the protrusion under the arm, located on the back of the case on the right side. Anyway, the orientation of the gadget is very conditional, since the sensor for determining the position of the device in space allows you to quickly rotate the picture on the display, adapting the book both to the left hand and to landscape orientation.
Maximum clarity
The high-quality screen with a high pixel density (300 ppi) ensures that even the smallest fonts are displayed clearly. The display backlight uses 10 LEDs with a wide range of brightness adjustment. However unlike the Amazon Kindle Voyage, you will have to set the backlight settings manually, because. the model does not have an auto-brightness sensor.
Recognition
The touch control that has become traditional is supplemented by two physical page turning buttons to the right of the screen. They fit comfortably under the thumb. When downloading books to a 4 GB device, remember that it can only recognize a few common formats: proprietary MOBI, as well as PDF and TXT. Popular FB2 and EPUB resolutions are not supported by the book, but they can be converted to the required format using various converters.
Battery cover
The reduced thickness of the device affected the battery capacity — with active reading, its charge is enough for about 2 weeks of battery life. An assistant in a significant pumping of the level of battery life is a complete leather case with a built-in battery, which allows you to extend the service life on a single charge up to one and a half months.
Unlimited Access
A separate modification of the reader offers its owners free access to the Amazon bookstore via 3G Internet (provided in about 100 countries around the world). This feature gives you access to your library while traveling, at the beach, and other places with mobile network coverage. The reader's main problem is that the price is too high, comparable to the price tag on the Apple iPad mini 4. Nevertheless, in the world of e-books, you can't find a better option.
