HTC Wildfire is a low-end Android smartphone, one of the most affordable solutions for Google Android on the market. At a low cost, it is distinguished by decent technical equipment and a convenient software part.

Frame
The device is made in the monoblock form-factor, outwardly reminiscent of more expensive HTC devices, in particular Desire. The main body material is plastic, the screen edging and the insert on the back cover are made of metal. The build quality is at a good level, without backlash and squeaks. The device is small in size, weighs a little, fits comfortably in the hand.

Control
The main phone controls are located under the screen: these are 4 touch buttons (Home, Menu, Back and Search), as well as an optical trackball for navigation. Other elements include a volume rocker on the left side and a screen/device power button on the top; note that there is no separate button for activating the camera. In addition, a standard microUSB connector is placed on the left side, and a 3.5 mm output is placed on the upper end, allowing the use of any standard headphones. The slot for memory cards is located under the battery cover, "hot" replacement is provided.

Screen
The Wildfire screen is the most controversial element in the entire phone. On the one hand, its resolution is only 240x320, which does not look very good with a diagonal of 3.2'' — the image is “rough”, graininess is noticeable; in addition, the brightness is relatively low. On the other hand, the display has quite decent colour reproduction and viewing angles, and behaves very well in the sun. In addition, the screen sensor is a capacitive type, with full support for multi-touch. There is an automatic rotation of the image due to the built-in accelerometer, there are light and proximity sensors.

Hardware
The hardware of the smartphone is based on a 528 MHz processor and has 384 MB of RAM — an average figure in general, but more than enough for normal performance, especially given the small screen resolution.

Software part
Wildfire is running Android 2.1 with a proprietary HTC Sense interface. The user has access to seven desktops with the ability to simultaneously view them all as thumbnails. One of the features of the interface is that it is organized around contacts, and not around applications. Of the applications themselves, it is worth noting the proprietary HTC Friend Stream widget for working in social networks (it allows you to track friends' updates on Facebook, Twitter and Flickr in one feed), as well as a specialized application for exchanging useful links to offers from the Android Market. Flash is supported. Synchronization options include not only Google services, but also Microsoft Exchange.

Telephone
Of the telephone functionality, it is worth noting the “polite” call separately: the ring volume decreases if you pick up the phone, and you can turn off the call sound by simply turning the device upside down.

Multimedia
Wildfire comes with its own music player instead of stock Android. One of the nice features: the player control keys are displayed on the lock screen, which makes it very easy to control the latter (especially in the absence of hardware keys for this). The video player supports playback of unconverted video. There is an FM tuner, but without RDS.

Camera
Built-in camera with a resolution of 5 megapixels has a flash and autofocus. "Smart" autofocus is possible, with the choice of the focus area at the request of the user directly on the touch screen. Geotags are supported. The shooting quality is average, one of the unpleasant moments is some “inertia” of the viewfinder. It is possible to use the LED flash as a flashlight.

Navigation
The phone is equipped with both aGPS (base station navigation) and a full-fledged GPS satellite navigation module, as well as a digital compass. The navigation software package comes with Google Maps. Their disadvantage is the need to connect to the Internet — the necessary map fragments are loaded by the phone as needed. However, there are a number of third-party applications for Android that use pre-installed maps and do not have this drawback — they can be installed and used instead of Google Maps.

Battery
The standard Wildfire battery has a capacity of 1300 mAh. According to the manufacturer, this is enough for 8 hours of talk time and 480 hours (20 days) of standby time. In fact, the energy consumption figures are quite good for their class: with an average load, the phone can work up to two days.
