E5 is the simplest representative of Nokia's "business" E-series (there are no plans to lower the indices in this series), an inexpensive smartphone, which in fact represents a transitional step between the E-series and the "social" C-series.

The device is made in monoblock form factor with a full-size QWERTY-keyboard. The main material is plastic, but the back panel is made of stainless steel, the control keys above the main keyboard are also made of metal. The build quality is excellent, without any obvious flaws. On the top panel there are microUSB and 3.5 mm connectors, as well as a separate 2 mm input for the charger.

The control keyboard includes a five-way joystick, two function keys, answer and end keys, and keys for returning to the menu and accessing messages. The QWERTY keyboard is made with a long space, as a result, in the Cyrillic localization, the letters Zh, E, X, and Ъ are in upper case - which, however, is quite standard for such devices and does not create any special problems when used. The role of the numeric keypad is traditionally performed by the central keys. Additional controls include a pair of volume buttons on the right panel.

The screen of the E5 corresponds to the class of the device - it is relatively small in size, the image quality and the range of viewing angles are average. There is a light sensor that automatically adjusts the brightness to external conditions.

The software part of the phone is based on Symbian S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2 and is characterized by some duality. On the one hand, the phone supports corporate Mail for Exchange and IBM Lotus Notes Traveler, justifying belonging to the E-series. On the other hand, a number of “social” options are provided, in particular, quick access to social networks and integration with Facebook (for example, you can track changes in the status of acquaintances directly in the phone book). As a result, the device is good as a personal device, but it is hardly possible recommend as a corporate phone, despite the formal belonging to the E-series.

The E5 player supports most modern audio formats. In addition to FM radio, you can listen to Internet broadcasts. The camera module is notable for the fact that in the presence of a 5-megapixel matrix and a flash, autofocus is not provided - instead, the camera is equipped with the so-called full-focus, which is an improved version of fixed focus. This speeds up the reaction time of the camera, since autofocus adjustment is not needed, but the quality of such pictures is lower. It is possible to shoot video with a frame rate of 15 fps and a resolution of up to 640x480 inclusive, in MP4 or 3GP format.

Separately, it is worth noting the presence of Wi-Fi in the phone, which makes it much more convenient to use it both for personal and business purposes.

There is a GPS-module with a set of free, according to tradition, maps. Supports geotagging for photos.

E5 is equipped with a 1200 mAh battery - it could be more, but thanks to optimized power consumption, the charge lasts for 5.5 hours of continuous 3G communication or 18.5 hours of GSM, and in standby mode the phone can live up to 29 days (according to the manufacturer) .

The phone is produced in five colours: black (Carbon Black), white (Chalk White), blue (Sky Blue), brown (Copper Brown), silvery (Silver Grey).
