Cameras covering an angle of 270 degrees or more appeared not so long ago, but they immediately became interested. That's just the price of such devices for quite a long time did not want to fall to any reasonable limits. Helped in this matter, as usual, the Chinese. While well-known brands want at least $250-300 for their cameras, such a device from SJCAM cost me about $115, which is good news. The camera has an unusual round body made of matte plastic and is equipped with a lens with a large convex lens. The mount is threaded, it is located on the opposite side of the lens. It all looks a bit futuristic and very cool. The camera can shoot 2048x2048 at 30 fps, as well as 1440x1440 and lower resolutions, but at the same 30 fps. It is possible to select the mode, available: fisheye, sphere and hemisphere, panorama mode, cylinder and mode for virtual reality (VR) devices. In addition, recorded files can be processed in the native 360fly Director utility before uploading to Youtube. By the way, everything is written on a regular microSD card with a capacity of up to 32 Gb, it is hidden under a stub on the side. The recording quality in good lighting is frankly pleasing. This is not a true 360 degree shooting in all planes, in reality the angle is limited to 220 degrees. I knew about this even before the moment of ordering and understood what I was buying. But an inattentive buyer may well buy into the name and advertising slogans. My second complaint is about the sound. It is deaf, with a not very high volume and, frankly, spoils the overall pleasant impression a little. To correct this shortcoming in recorded videos, you have to work separately with the sound track in Sound Forge, but not only everyone can do this ((( |
Is it a droid or a pokeball?
The panoramic camera SJCAM Sj360 has an unusual rounded plastic body, in the upper part of which there is a large convex lens with a six-layer lens. The appearance of the SJ360 is memorable and futuristic, it will remind someone of an orange droid from the new Star Wars, and someone of a billiard ball or pokeball. Well, or on the Samsung Gear 360. The lens itself covers 360 degrees horizontally and 220 vertically.
Thoughtful ergonomics
Next to the camera lens is a small monochrome display and a few control buttons. Although the equipment is minimalistic, the camera control is well thought out and you quickly get used to it. The display only displays system information; a smartphone based on Android or iOS operating systems is used to broadcast the picture.
Connection
A fairly capacious 1300 mAh battery is hidden under the cover near the screen, which is enough for a couple of hours of video recording in maximum quality. A decent result for such a compact camera. There is also a slot for a microSD card, HDMI ports and, for some reason, a miniUSB port instead of the usual microUSB. It is difficult to say what such an engineering solution is connected with, but this does not add convenience.
Image processing in 360fly Director
The SJ360 records video in 2048x2048 resolution at 30 fps. This is far from a record, but quite enough for most users of such gadgets. Before publishing the videos, they can be processed, glued and cut out the necessary parts in the proprietary 360fly Director application. In terms of photos, the camera snaps shots at 12MP on par with average smartphones.
Equipment for all occasions
In general, in terms of price-quality ratio, this is a fairly simple and inexpensive camera, designed for the mass buyer, and not for extreme bloggers. But at the same time, the manufacturer went beyond many professional solutions and added a dozen adapters and mounts for all occasions, a carrying case and even a microfibre cloth to the package. Z means care.
