In mid-2018, AMD introduced the new AMD B450 chipset for the Socket AM4 platform, which replaced the popular AMD B350 and brought with it a number of new technologies, more stable overclocking, and the ability to work with 2nd generation AMD Ryzen processors without the need to flash the BIOS. Interestingly, this chipset has produced a lot of both frankly low-cost motherboards and almost overclocker options, which are not much inferior to motherboards based on the flagship X470 chipset. MSI B450 GAMING PLUS MAX can be safely attributed to the second class: it is a powerful, well-made, stylish and functional “mother”, which, according to all the laws of the genre, should cost significantly more.
High-quality circuitry, all the necessary ports and system auto-overclocking
We begin to bend our fingers. Firstly, there is a complete set of all necessary ports, including 4 slots for RAM with a maximum frequency of 4133 MHz, a pair of reinforced PCI-E for installing two video cards in Crossfire mode, one Turbo M.2 interface and a gigabit port. For complete happiness, only USB-C is missing. Secondly, it uses really high-quality circuitry with massive heatsinks and high-quality capacitors. Thirdly, it supports very useful game modes (Game Boost and Memory Boost), which bypass all the limitations of the B450 chipset, automatically selecting the optimal frequency and multiplier of processor cores, as well as variations in RAM timings. That is, I just turned it on and without having to blink, I got the optimal overclocking of the entire system.
Friendly with new Ryzen
Also a big plus of the SI B450 GAMING PLUS MAX is compatibility. The B450 chipset was created with the expectation of the second generation of Ryzen, but MSI released the motherboard a little later, having managed to catch the release of the new Ryzen Matisse processors. Therefore, it works with them right out of the box, without the need to update the BIOS. But further more, AMD gave up on a mile of users and after numerous requests added support for the B450 chipset with completely new Ryzen Vermeer processors on the Zen 3 core.
