This is a simple model that satisfies the basic needs of specialists. Samsung S24D590PL, thanks to a balanced set of characteristics, can be recommended to both novice photographers and Web designers.

The appearance is strict to the point of asceticism, nothing distracts from work. The thickness of the frame is very small, so it's worth taking care of the neutral colour of the wall behind the monitor.

Independent tests show that the Samsung S24D590PL colour coverage corresponds to sRGB, and the colour temperature meets the requirements of the D65 standard. The uniformity of the illumination, taking into account the diagonal, is normal. The response speed is sufficient to work in video applications.

The glow effect is noticeable only at very large angles, the shade is purple, the crystal effect can be detected, but at a working distance from the screen it is almost invisible. The backlight brightness is normal, which reduces fatigue during prolonged use. The refresh rate reaches 76 Hz, which is a good indicator for a panel of this class.

The user has the option to select one of five colour temperature presets and one of three gamma values. The manufacturer does not provide their numerical parameters. The colour temperature has a slot for storing a custom value. Fine colour adjustment is also available for each of the RGB channels on a scale of 0-100.

The main drawback of Samsung S24D590PL lies in the design of the leg and is aggravated by the lack of holes for VESA-mounting. The fact is that the only available setting of the screen position in space is the tilt in the vertical plane. This means that to adjust the height, you will have to put something under the leg, making operation unsafe for the device itself, taking into account its dimensions and the location of the centre of gravity.

There is no reason to expect a microphone / camera in this price category, but the absence of a USB hub can only be attributed to the desire to make a truly minimalist design.

Asus VX279Q 27 " black

If the 24" of our first participant seem too small, then pay attention to the Asus VX279Q. In addition to 27" of good image, you will get sound, as well as advanced picture customization options.

This monitor looks great on the desktop. Three of its sides are framed by a thin frame, the fourth (lower) is thicker than the rest – there are built-in speakers and touch control buttons. The leg with a round base provides good stability, but only the slope is available from spatial adjustments.

The Asus VX279Q supports the MHL standard when connected via HDMI, which allows not only to output content from compatible mobile devices directly, but also to recharge them.

The unique QuickFit function provides output over any image of guides (by thirds), as well as popular paper sizes and photo prints. It should be appreciated by designers and photographers, since the display of guides is not in all programs / modes.

The customization options should satisfy many users. The only complaint that may arise is the lack of direct adjustment via RGB channels, however, the quality of the matrix and its factory setting are high and such a procedure will most likely not have to be resorted to. In addition to the standard brightness, contrast and saturation, the colour temperature changes (three presets and a slot for a custom value). There is a separate item for configuring the display of body tones (three shade options).

The menu contains the sRGB mode, as well as several options for image improvers with their own options, but they are more needed for watching videos or games.

The test results indicate that the picture of the Asus VX279Q is quite correct for Web design, the narrowness of the colour coverage should not confuse those working with photos, since the colour ratios are generally correct. The LED backlight has a good margin in brightness.

On a diagonal of 27", the Full HD resolution may seem low – the pixel becomes quite large. If the power of the computer allows, you can choose a monitor with a higher resolution, for example, 0x1440, but when processing video, the pixel-to-pixel display function will be lost.

Don't like two-monitor designs? Meet an interesting alternative, LG 34UM65 has a cinematic aspect ratio of 21:9. It is also very convenient for work, because it allows you to comfortably place both an image and tabs with tools, get a very detailed timeline, or simply open two windows, in one of which you can edit the site code, and in the second you can observe changes in the browser.

The design is quite strict: only the noticeable manufacturer's logo on the thickened bottom of the frame confuses. The leg is made of transparent acrylic, which sometimes gives the impression that the monitor is suspended from the wall. In fact, there is such a possibility, and this is good news for those who lack only a tilt in the vertical plane – it is inconvenient to change the height of the leg.

The control is tied to a five-position joystick and an on-screen menu system. The image is adjusted by colour temperature (three presets and a slot for a custom value), by directly changing the RGB balance, as well as through the RGBCMY six-colour correction system, and not only the tone changes, but also the saturation for each of the reference colours. There are three variants of the scale.

The test results indicate almost 100% coverage of the sRGB space and stability of the colour temperature with changes in brightness. The range allows you to work comfortably both in a brightly lit and rather dark room.

Hardware measurement showed a noticeable variation in colour temperature over the area of the matrix. Moving away from the centre causes a slight warming. For most tasks, this is completely uncritical, but if retouching large–scale female portraits is one of the main types of work, it is worth looking for another model. Displaying long gradient fills is also not included in the list of advantages of the LG 34UM65.

In Windows, you can install the Screen Split utility, which automatically makes the layout of windows (eight presets, the ability to create your own). The presence of multiple inputs allows you to display images from two sources (PBP) on the monitor.
Useful tips. If colour is important for your work, purchase a hardware calibrator – a device that analyzes what the monitor shows. The software included in the package analyzes the difference between the reference values and the readings of the device, creating a colour profile of the graphics card-monitor bundle. Thanks to the profile, the operating system and specialized software adjust the data on the fly in such a way as to get the most reliable picture on this equipment.

The Apple LED Thunderbolt Display 27" monitor is suitable for owners of desktop computers Mac Pro and mini, but the users of modern Apple laptops.

The fact is that Thunderbolt Display is not just a monitor. According to the developers from Apple, users should not waste time setting up the monitor. Therefore, there are no menus and controls in it. Everything that is required is changed from the applications/utilities of the Mac OS X operating system.

Attempts to connect Thunderbolt Display to a PC have been made repeatedly, but this is pointless: the monitor uses an IPS matrix that is practically no different from other IPS, respectively, it is easier to buy a high-quality monitor with the appropriate input than to look for adapters. Or completely switch to Apple technology.
Useful tips.It is advisable to repeat the calibration periodically, every three to six months, depending on the type and quality of the monitor. External lighting also affects the calibration results, so if there is a significant change in the location of the desktop or a change in the type of artificial lighting sources, it is strongly recommended to recalibrate.

Welcome to the professional league. The Dell UP3214Q monitor combines the maximum resolution available today on the mass market and colour coverage at the level of Adobe RGB 1988. The pleasure is not cheap, but it is much more convenient to work on this, especially when you need to open a lot of palettes with tools.

The manufacturing quality fully corresponds to the price category of the device – polished aluminium, plastic that looks and feels pleasant to the touch. The design is modest, without radical modernism.

The standard leg allows you to change the height by 9 cm, tilt the screen in vertical and even horizontal planes. For those who want to hang a monitor on the wall (32" look appropriate there), there are holes for a VESA mount.

Good equipment should also be mentioned: the manufacturer has found an opportunity to accommodate four USB 3.0 ports, as well as an SD memory card slot.

The monitor is configured via the on-screen menu using the touch buttons on the right side of the frame. The menu is graphical, the values of the buttons change dynamically. It is pointless to list numerous parameters, there are so many of them that any user will find "something to twist". However, the factory calibration (with documentary confirmation) provides a very good image.

The tests showed an excellent range of brightness and contrast, accurate colour reproduction in the expanded to Adobe RGB space and, very pleasantly, excellent uniformity of both white and black over the entire area of the screen.

Experts note the stability of the contrast ratio at different brightness values, which means that regardless of the intensity of lighting in the room, you can adjust the display for comfortable operation .

The main indicator of the deviation of screen colours from the standard is δE – Dell UP3214Q has less than one, which is just an excellent result, especially for LCD monitors.

It should be noted that the colour rendering quality is approximately the same for Adobe RGB and sRGB. This will be appreciated by specialists in the preparation of images for printing, where a sufficiently wide space can prevent you from correctly predicting the results of printing in light pastel colours that are problematic for CMYK. Switching between spaces is done by simply selecting a preset from the monitor menu.
