The Discovery brand is owned by the American television channel Discovery Channel, which specializes in documentary content related to science and technology. It began broadcasting in 1985 and was founded by businessman John Hendricks, owner of Cable Educational Network Inc., which specialized in providing documentary content to television companies. Having gained $5 million in capital, Hendrix decided to try his hand at running his own channel.
Initially, the Discovery Channel (in those years its name was The Discovery Channel) broadcast only 12 hours daily. But since the overwhelming majority of the content was unique, the channel quickly managed to win fans and begin to expand its range, without limiting to educational programs. The channel began showing reality shows, investigative series, etc. The number of such programs increased so much over time that the channel even began to be criticized for moving away from educational topics. The management listened to the criticism and since 2006, Discovery has been, first of all, popular science channel.
Naturally, the channel's management is not limit activity to just one direction. The Discovery brand can be seen on a wide variety of products, most of which are directly related to environmental exploration and travel. These are binoculars, microscopes, telescopes, bicycles, weather stations and other similar products manufactured under license.
However, since the name Discovery is popular and attractive, not all products on the market are related to the Discovery Channel. For example, the Hungarian manufacturer Discovery-optics produces optical sights.
