Magneti Marelli is one of the world's leading suppliers of automotive components and systems. The company specializes in the development and production of high-tech products, such as engine management and fuel injection systems, automotive electronics, lighting systems, and components for active and passive safety.

The company's activities began in 1919 in Italy, it was founded with the aim of producing magnetos for ignition systems, and initially named Fabbrica Italiana Magneti Marelli (FIMM). It was a joint venture with FIAT (today Stellantis Europe) and Ercole Marelli – a firm established in 1891 by Italian engineer Ercole Marelli, which specialized in the production of various electrical devices.

In its early years, Magneti Marelli focused on producing magnetos, starters, and generators for car engines. Over time, the company expanded its product range to include various electrical components for cars, conducting experiments in creating electronic devices, including those for military applications. By the 1950s, the company had become a leader in this field. In 1967, FIAT acquired Ercole Marelli, becoming the sole owner of Magneti Marelli.

During the 1970s and 1980s, Magneti Marelli heavily invested in research and development, enabling it to integrate cutting-edge technologies into its products. During this period, the company emerged as a significant player in the automotive electronics market, specializing in engine management systems, fuel injection systems, and other high-tech components for vehicles.

In the 1990s, Magneti Marelli continued to expand its operations by acquiring and integrating various companies and technologies, thereby strengthening its position in the international market. During this period, the company also began actively developing and manufacturing automotive lighting systems, which became one of its key areas of expertise. Additionally, significant attention was devoted to advancing safety systems during this time.

In 2018, it was announced that Magneti Marelli was acquired by the Japanese corporation Calsonic Kansei, which was formed in 2000 through the merger of Calsonic Corp. and Kansei Corp., both specializing in automotive components. The acquisition led to the formation of Marelli Holdings Co., Ltd. in 2019, creating the world's largest automotive parts manufacturer.
