The EMTEC company specializes in the production of a variety of storage media - flash drives, SSD drives, pockets for hard drives, etc. Various computer accessories and consumables are also produced. The manufacturer is part of the Dexxon group, headquartered in Gennevilliers, France.

And although the history of the EMTEC brand officially began in 1997, its roots go back to the 60s of the 20th century. In 1963, Philips developed the first compact cassette, which was supposed to be a replacement for the inconvenient reels of magnetic tape. However, the production of magnetic tape turned out to be a difficult task for the Dutch manufacturer and it was decided to turn to the German chemical concern BASF. For some time, the Germans were producing films for others (moreover, this product was even one of the key ones), but later it was decided to establish their own production of these products.

BASF cassettes have become extremely popular; they are well remembered by everyone who witnessed the popularity of this medium. However, by the end of the 20th century, company management realized that the era of magnetic tape-based media was coming to an end. In 1991, it was decided to spin off the BASF Magnetics division into a separate company. In 1997, it was acquired by Korean plastics manufacturer KOHAP, Ltd. and changed its name to EMTEC Magnetics. Subsequently, EMTEC changed owners several more times.

The production of audio cassettes continued until 2004, after which all specialized equipment went to the Dutch company Recording Media Group International (RMGI), which then dealt with these products until 2018. As for EMTEC, this company focused on more promising CDs, and then flash memory-based drives. In 2006, it was acquired by Dexxon, a French company that distributes computer products.
