Bicycle cassettes
Bicycle cassettes
— cassettes are the main element of the classic gear shifting system - a set of several sprockets of different diameters on the same axle, mounted on the rear wheel. Switching speeds (changing the gear ratio) is carried out by transferring the chain from one star to another using a special device (see "Speed shifters"). A ratchet mechanism is standardly installed in such parts, thanks to which the rotation from the pedals is transmitted to the wheels, but not vice versa - in other words, the pedals do not spin themselves when coasting. During operation, such a mechanism makes a characteristic sound.Show
