— a series of action-adventure games with elements of a third-person shooter that tells about the adventures of Lara Croft, an adventurer and explorer of ancient buildings. The first Tomb Raider was one of the founders of the action-adventure genre, and the main character is still one of the most recognizable video game characters of all time. The gameplay in most games in the series is based on the exploration of ruins, tombs and dungeons, and the search for ancient artifacts. To successfully complete the game, the player must successfully avoid deadly traps, confront enemies (sometimes immortal ones), and be smart in solving puzzles, from the simplest to the most difficult. Some key elements of the gameplay change from game to game: for example, in early titles the plot and levels were linear, in the latest games the player has more freedom — up to a full-fledged open world; sometimes the enemies are well-defined beings, sometimes the main adversary is nature itself; some games have added elements of stealth mechanics, etc. However, two points remain unchanged: the extensive use of puzzles (often "stretched" over a significant part of the level), as well as jumping over chasms and between surfaces at different levels, giving the games some resemblance to platformers.
The series has been produced since 1996, during which time it has experienced two restarts — in 2006 and in 2013. In total, 12 main games and about the same number of spin-offs have been released under the Tomb Raider brand. Nowadays (as of 2019), from games for desktop platforms, you can find titles from the second reboot — Tomb Raider 2013, Rise of the Tomb Raider 2015 and Shadow of the Tomb Raider 2015. All of these games are available on PC, PS and Xbox.
