4.5 mm
— one of the basic calibers of pneumatic weapons. It is the most popular due to the fact that pneumatics for this caliber are sold in most countries without special permits. Among professionals and enthusiasts, it is known as "children's" — as opposed to "papal" 5.5 mm and "grandfather" 6.35 mm. In part, this nickname is justified: for hunting purposes, 4.5 mm can only be used for small game, and it is difficult to shoot accurately with such a caliber further than 50 m, even from a powerful rifle. On the other hand, this caliber is quite suitable not only for recreational, but also for training and sports shooting (including high-precision shooting); and a great variety of weapons are produced for it — from the simplest "breaks" to high-class professional rifles such as PCP (with pre-pumping).Note that in addition to the base 4.5 mm, there are also bullets on the market where the claimed caliber differs from this value by hundredths of a millimetre; the range of such spread can be from 4.46 mm to 4.53 mm. Such bullets can be used without problems in any pneumatics with a nominal caliber of 4.5 mm; and actual size details are based primarily on professional shooters who shoot high-precision premium rifles. For such shooting, the smallest nuances are important; therefore, some shooters determine the actual diameter of the barrel of their weapons to the nearest hundredth of a millimetre and try to pick up bullets that best match this diameter. In other cases, such deviations can be ignored.
