Varieties of heat guns by power source

Depending on the power source, heat guns are divided into:

Electric heat gun.
  • Electrical. In this type of heating units, the working body can be an open spiral, heating element or ceramic plates. The latter are much more durable and more efficient than spirals and heating elements, they do not burn dust and do not dry the air much. The principle of operation of electric guns is similar to a conventional hair dryer: cooled air is captured by a fan and fed into a chamber with a heating element. There it warms up and is blown into the room at an elevated temperature. Some models are equipped with thermostats that turn the unit on and off when the desired temperature is reached. Low-power models (up to 5 kW) are powered by a conventional 220 W outlet, and those that are more powerful from a three-phase 380 W. Electric heating units are environmentally friendly (no emissions to the atmosphere) and operate quite quietly (compared to diesel and gas), so they can be run in closed, unventilated rooms where low noise levels are very important. In particular, electric guns are suitable for heating unheated garages and gyms. They can also work continuously. However, the main disadvantage is the dependence on the power grid and the amount of electricity consumed.
Gas heat gun.
  • Gas. This type of heater needs two types of fuel at the same time: electricity to run the fan and gas to heat the air. However, unlike electric guns, the power consumption here is minimal. The principle of operation is as follows: gas is supplied from the cylinder through the reducer and pipe to the burner. With the help of a piezo igniter, a flame is created on the burner that burns the gas. The fan also supplies cooled air to the burner compartment, where it heats up from the chamber walls and is blown out. The main advantage of gas guns is the rapid heating of the room and more economical total consumption. However, the burner burns the air very quickly, making it unsuitable for use in closed living spaces. Also, during operation, condensation is strongly released and the humidity in the room rises, so it is not suitable for drying. However, for heating auto repair shops, where the gates are always open or construction sites, thermal units will be very useful.
Diesel heat gun.
  • Diesel. These are the most powerful and performant representatives of blowers designed for heating large areas (hangars, workshops, etc.). The principle of operation is similar to gas, with the only difference in fuel — diesel is used here. Many models are equipped with a flame control function, which blocks the fuel supply when the flame is extinguished by external factors. This prevents fuel leakage. Also, in expensive models, filters are installed on the nozzles, which protect against dust and large particles of sand. The thermal power of diesel units reaches 80 kW, but their cost is very high. All this makes them popular and available more for industrial than for home use. In turn, diesel units are divided into:
Scheme of operation of diesel guns of direct heating
1) Combustion chamber; 2) Burner; 3) Nozzle; 4) Electrovalve; 5) Diesel pipeline; 6) Fan; 7) Engine;
8) Diesel pump; 9) Detail for winding the cord; 10) Fuel tank; 11) Control panel.
  • Heat guns of direct heating. This type of diesel blower produces high efficiency and can heat a huge room (some models are able to serve up to 1800 m2). The air blown by the fan enters directly into the combustion chamber, where it heats up from the walls. After that, it is blown out with smoke. The temperature of the air blown out is high, but at the same time, its pollution is also high. That is why direct heating units cannot be run in buildings where people are constantly present. Also, such a room should be regularly ventilated.
Scheme of operation of diesel guns of indirect heating
1) Combustion chamber; 2) Chimney; 3) Burner; 4) Nozzle; 5) Electrovalve; 6) Diesel pipeline; 7) Fan;
8) Engine; 9) Diesel pump; 10) Detail for winding the cord; 11) Fuel tank; 12) Control panel.
  • Heat guns of indirect heating. The design is almost identical to direct heating models with the only difference being the presence of a chimney. Thanks to it, all combustion products are removed up the pipe, without getting into the room with warm air. However, it is worth noting that, along with the smoke, part of the warm air is also removed, due to which the efficiency of the unit decreases. This type of heater can be used both indoors and outdoors.
