You can independently choose and buy a fan in the corresponding catalog. Below we will talk about what is important to pay attention to when choosing a device.

The principle of operation of a domestic fan is well known to everyone — the device creates a directed air flow in the room, which carries away heated air from the surface of the human body and, thus, helps maintain a normal temperature. But this is provided that the body temperature is above room temperature, since blowing with a hot air stream has nothing to do with cooling. However, in our climatic zone, most days of the year — and even in summer — the ambient temperature is kept in the right range, which makes the fan a reasonable purchase.

The models on the market can be divided into three groups, depending on the way the air flow is created. These are: axial, radial and rotorless fans. All of them are independent devices, powered by a 230 V electrical network, and the average power of most models is 40-50 watts.

Next, we will look at each of the types and tell you how to choose a fan that is right for you.

Axial fans — simple and affordable

The simplest are classic axial fans. They have little power, and the air flow is created by rotating the propeller blades. The efficiency of such models is low, and therefore it is better to use them in close proximity to the user, since the airflow area leaves much to be desired. To ensure safety, the propeller is made of soft plastic and placed in a protective wire casing, through which small children like to stick various objects.

Axial fans are presented in desktop and floor form. The former are designed for installation on a pedestal or table, have the most compact dimensions and the lowest power among all solutions on the market. Opposite the floor ones are equipped with a special leg-stand for adjusting the height of the fan.

Usually, even the most affordable axial fans boast a swivel system and the ability to tilt, which allows you to change the direction of the air flow. The user can adjust the rotation speed of the blades in at least 2-3 positions. More advanced solutions may even boast features such as humidification or air ionization. That is, even among these, the most simple and familiar devices, you can find an effective solution.

Radial fans

Radial fans are more modern, interesting and safe models. Thanks to a special design, the possibility of contact with moving parts is minimized, and the air flow is created through the use of centrifugal force: air enters the cylinder with curved blades and, due to its rotation, is supplied to the room.

If the ambient air temperature is close to or exceeds 36.6 °C, then the use of a fan is pointless. In this case, the human body will be blown by a stream of air, the temperature of which is higher — you will feel even more warm.

Radial fans are floor-mounted and are made in the form of a vertical rack or column. Often equipped with an LCD display, a step-by-step airflow intensity adjustment system and a special rotary system that allows you to change the direction of the air without changing the position of the device. Also, the advantages should be considered a modern design, thanks to which they look great indoors. But the moisturizing function is not provided even in advanced and expensive models.

Stylish bladeless fans

Design and operation of a bladeless fan

Rotorless fans deserve special attention, which are also called bladeless. They have the form of a ring or rim mounted on a cylindrical base, inside which a small but powerful fan operates. An intense air flow is directed into the inner cavity of the ring and exits at high speed through special slots, entraining the air in the inner volume of the ring.

They boast a stylish design and smooth power control. More expensive solutions are equipped with a swivel system, and also allow for tilt and height adjustment.

Completely devoid of moving parts located outside, which significantly increases the safety of operation — far from the last parameter, and especially if the device is used in a room where there is a child. And if in the case of the axial model, the indefatigable desire of the baby to stick a stick, or even a finger through the protective grille, can lead to unpleasant consequences, then in the bladeless model, you are always welcome. But today it is also the most expensive type of fans.

Additional functions

Many modern models, regardless of type, are initially equipped with a remote control that allows you to change the speed or direction of the air flow without getting up from a comfortable sofa. The built-in timer provides automatic inclusion and switching off of the device in the set time.

Many are equipped with additional features that improve the indoor climate. So, the air humidification system allows you to maintain the humidity in the room at the right level — such a fan can easily replace a humidifier.

The positive effect of negatively charged ions on human health has long been proven. Modern fans with an ionizer will provide the necessary concentration. The level of humidity and ionization is especially important to control in rooms where children or people with poor health live or stay for a long time.

If you need the most compact solution possible, then you should look at models with the ability to mount on a clip. These are not capable of boasting high power and are rather designed for personal use. They can be fixed to the edge of a table or shelf, which provides additional savings in free space. Separate fans are designed for wall mounting — very convenient, but the device completely loses its mobile capabilities.

The noisiest are axial, while the quietest are rotorless. Most of the models are made of multi-coloured plastic. But there are also devices dressed in a metal case — they are mainly designed for use in industrial and office premises.
