What to Know When Choosing a Baby Monitor?
We independently test the products and technologies that we recommend.

You can independently select and buy a baby monitor from the complete catalog. Below, we will discuss what is important to consider when choosing a device.
Classic models cannot guarantee complete safety for your child, but they can provide additional "supervision" over the baby in a large house or at a summer cottage, where parents may not always hear the baby's cry. The device transmits sound and some auxiliary parameters from the so-called child unit to the parent unit. In contrast, video monitors can also transmit "images" from the camera in the child's unit to the parent unit.
When choosing a baby monitor, pay attention to:

Signal range. It should be at least 300 meters if you live in a private house or a large apartment. Keep in mind that the model specifications indicate the range on flat surfaces. The presence of walls and obstacles can significantly weaken the signal.
Charging type. Some baby monitors operate only from an outlet (at least one of the units). This is quite economical, but you won't be able to take such a device with you, for example, to a friend's house or set it up on the balcony (if there’s no outlet there). Many models now operate on batteries. However, this option can be quite expensive since the baby monitor runs continuously, at least for the first year and a half of the baby’s life. The optimal choice would be a model with the option of charging from an outlet and installing batteries in both units.
Sound alert on the parent unit indicating that the battery is low. This is important to ensure that you are aware when the signal is no longer available.
Sound alert indicating that the connection with the baby unit is lost. This feature is especially important if you have a large house and yard. It allows the mom to go outside without worrying that she won't hear the signal from the nursery.
Two-way communication or "parent-child" function. This allows the mom to respond to the baby, letting them know that she hears them and is coming. Two-way communication will be helpful as the child grows. You can tell a story without leaving the kitchen or simply play with the child as you would with regular walkie-talkies.
Convenience of attachment. The parent unit should always be within reach. This could be a neck strap, a clip for the belt, or a table stand.
When choosing a video monitor, you should consider the same characteristics as with baby monitors. Additionally, a video monitor must have a "night" or infrared shooting function. Otherwise, after 4 PM in winter, the screen will be completely dark.
