Best Foldable Screen Smartphones

Until recently, smartphones with foldable screens were niche and expensive products. The situation is fundamentally changed by Blackview Hero 10— a clamshell model at a relatively affordable price.

The device will cost similar to a strong mid-level smartphone. The foldable internal screen of the model is made using AMOLED technology with a diagonal size of 6.9 inches. The display transmits images in a resolution of 2560x1080 pixels, and its refresh rate is 60 Hz— there is no increased "hertz". The hinge in the device's screen should withstand over 250 thousand folding/unfolding cycles. Complementing the picture is a tiny external round-shaped screen—1.9 inches diagonally, AMOLED, 390x390 pixels.

The model uses a popular medium-class processor, MediaTek Helio G99, without 5G mobile network support. To increase performance, the smartphone provides 12 GB of LPDDR4x RAM. The device's data storage capacity is 256 GB. Blackview Hero 10 will cope well with any everyday tasks and can handle many mobile games, even if not always on high graphic settings.

The device is equipped with a dual main camera format of 108 + 8 MP and a selfie camera of 32 MP with a lens in the internal display. The smartphone is also equipped with an NFC module, a side fingerprint scanner, and stereo speakers. The autonomous operation of the model is powered by a battery exactly at 4000 mAh, supporting fast wired charging of 45 W—from zero to 48% it can be charged in about 20 minutes. Blackview Hero 10 presents the implementation of smartphones with flexible screens to the masses.

The debut of Xiaomi's first vertical "clamshell" took place in the summer of 2024. It became the Mix Flip model—a truly flagship smartphone that can be fully used both folded and unfolded.

In the closed state, one half of the device's body is occupied by a 4-inch AMOLED screen with a high pixel density of 460 ppi and an adaptive refresh rate up to 120 Hz. More than 200 different applications work on the gadget's external display, and the two-way conversational speaker allows you to receive and make phone calls without the need to open the device.

The internal foldable screen also boasts a high pixel density. It is a 6.86-inch diagonal AMOLED panel with a maximum resolution of 2912x1244 dots and a dynamic refresh rate up to 120 Hz. The smartphone operates under the command of the powerful eight-core Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset combined with 12 GB LPDDR5X RAM and a 512 GB UFS 4.0 internal data storage. There are simply no challenging tasks for the smartphone.

A piece of the external display space on the Xiaomi Mix Fold is reserved for the needs of two large "eyes" of the main Leica camera. The leading photomodule of the device is represented by the LightHunter 800 sensor with a resolution of 50 MP and optical stabilization, accompanied by a 2x telephoto (also 50 MP). For selfie-capture in the internal display, there is a cutout for the 32 MP front camera lens.

The smartphone is equipped with a capacious battery of 4780 mAh, supporting fast 67-watt wired charging. Also, the model includes Wi-Fi 7, an NFC chip, a proprietary IR port, a side fingerprint scanner, and stereo speakers with Hi-Res Audio. The device turned out to be powerful, technologically advanced and, importantly, beautiful in terms of design—Xiaomi Mix Fold is a potential hit in the vertical form factor "clamshell" segment.

Technically and externally, the fan edition of the "clamshell" Samsung Galaxy Flip7 is almost a complete copy of the previous model Flip6. With the only difference being that it is equipped with the in-house Exynos 2400 processor instead of Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and has reduced memory volumes.

The Fan Edition version of the smartphone is indeed indistinguishable from its predecessor in all aspects. It has the same foldable main display based on Dynamic AMOLED 2X matrix with a diagonal size of 6.7 inches in the unfolded state and a resolution of 2640x1080 pixels. The screen supports an adaptive refresh rate up to 120 Hz and is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2. The gadget's external display uses a 3.4-inch Super AMOLED panel with a resolution of 748x720 pixels and an increased refresh rate up to 120 Hz.

As already mentioned, the model's operation is organized under the leadership of the proprietary Exynos 2400 processor. In the maximum configuration of the device, there are 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of data storage space. The operating system for the smartphone is served by One UI 8, installed on top of Android 16. AI functionality with the Galaxy AI is ubiquitously implemented in the model.

Samsung Galaxy Flip7 FE is equipped with a dual camera of 50 + 12 MP with optical stabilization of the main image sensor. The lenses of the main camera are embedded in the characteristic cutout above the external display. A 10 MP front camera is integrated into the internal screen. The smartphone is powered by a 4000 mAh battery supporting 25-watt wired charging and bilateral wireless charging technology. Essentially, this is a minor update to the Samsung Galaxy Flip6 clamshell with an emphasis on availability to a broad audience.

The original Galaxy Flip7 model became the evolutionary development of Samsung's lineup of "clamshell" smartphones. What's new in it? Let's sort it out in order.

First of note is the gadget's external display, which now occupies almost the entire outward-facing half of the body. The screen measures 4.1 inches diagonally and displays images in a maximum resolution of 1048x948 pixels. The only "but"—part of the display is reserved for the needs of the dual rear camera lenses along with the flash. The main foldable screen of the device has also grown slightly—from 6.7 to 6. inches. It's still a Dynamic AMOLED 2X matrix with an adaptive refresh rate up to 120 Hz.

The hardware platform of the smartphone is based on the proprietary 10-core Exynos 2500 processor, reinforced by 12 GB of fast LPDDR5X RAM and a 256 GB UFS 4.0 data storage. The model confidently handles any modern games and heavy applications in multitasking mode. Moreover, it features advanced AI functionality with Galaxy AI, enhanced to recognize objects on the screen or from the camera in real time.

In terms of cameras, the model does not differ from the previous "clamshell" in the shape of Samsung Galaxy Flip6 — 50 MP main sensor with optical stabilization and 12 MP ultrawide are installed at the back, and in the folding display, there is a 10 MP front camera. However, in the 7th-gen smartphone, the battery capacity has been increased (from 4000 to 4300 mAh). The battery supports wireless charging in both directions. The positive qualities of the Samsung Galaxy Flip7 are complemented by IP48 dust and water resistance, as well as high-speed communications Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth v 5.4.

The "clamshells" of the Motorola Razr Ultra series implement thoroughly advanced smartphone manufacturing developments. The best proof of this in practice is the 2025 model Razr 60 Ultra, assembled in an IP48 class protection body.

The smartphone operates on the powerful eight-core Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, which effortlessly handles any mobile load. The top chipset is complemented by impressive memory volumes: the model provides as much as 16 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512 GB capacity of the standard data storage. With such a volume, you can easily do without a memory expansion slot.

The dual-screen execution is the main highlight of the model in question. At the same time, the main display in its construction folds in half. This is a 7-inch AMOLED matrix with a high resolution of 2992x1224 pixels and a wide range of adaptive refresh rates from 1 to 165 Hz. The same refresh rate was granted to the external display, stretched diagonally precisely at 4 inches. The outdoor screen displays images in a resolution of 1272x1080 pixels. It is "under the protection" of durable Gorilla Glass Ceramic.

The model is equipped with advanced "three-by-fifty" cameras. The main photomodule of the device is composed of a 50 MP main sensor with optical stabilization and support for video recording in 8K resolution. Next to it is a 50 MP ultrawide. Finally, the smartphone has a 50 MP front camera (in the internal display). In other aspects, Motorola Razr 60 Ultra is equipped with wireless communication modules Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth v 5.4, stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos sound, a 4700 mAh battery with fast wired and wireless charging functions (68 W and 30 W respectively). In general, the model is indeed equipped at the highest level.
