In the niche of book-shaped smartphones, products from Samsung consistently occupy high prize places. Let's take, for example, the Galaxy Fold5 model - a folding flagship of the 2023 model.

The fifth edition model is a minor update of the Samsung Galaxy Fold4 smartphone. Among the innovations, the "fold" of the internal screen has been improved and a more powerful processor has been installed - otherwise, the differences from the fourth generation are minimal. However, this is explained by the successful implementation of the line as a whole. The device is powered by a powerful eight-core Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset. The smartphone has 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage (fast UFS 4.0 standard).

The main characters of the device are the screens: the external one based on the Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with a diagonal size of 6.2 inches and a resolution of 2316x904 pixels, as well as the internal one - with the same matrix, but larger (7.6 inches when unfolded, 2176x1818 pixels). The refresh rate of both screens reaches 120 Hz. The flexible display supports work with the S Pen, which is sold separately.

The Samsung Galaxy Fold5 has acquired a whole scattering of cameras. Firstly, the smartphone has a triple main photo module of 50 + 12 + 10 MP, consisting of a stabilized leading sensor, an ultra-wide lens and a telephoto lens with an optical stabilization system. Secondly, the device has a 10 MP front camera in the external display and a 4 MP under-screen selfie camera inside. The main purpose of the front camera in the internal panel is video calls.

Google entered the foldable smartphone league with the Pixel Fold in 2023. And it made a great debut.

The device is made in a "book" layout and has an additional external screen. The cameras on board the Google Pixel Fold are represented by a triple main photo module of 48 + 10.8 + 10.8 MP and two front cameras (one in each screen). The leading sensor of the main camera of the smartphone received an optical image stabilization system. At the same time, proprietary processing algorithms and other exclusive "pixel" functions are in place.

The device runs on pure Android, supports 5G mobile networks, and boasts reliable IPX8 waterproofing. But the model's autonomy is average - the need to power two screens at once has an effect. The 4821 mAh battery barely lasts until the evening with moderately active use of the smartphone. Fortunately, the battery supports accelerated wired charging and can be charged wirelessly. Honor Magic V2 is one of the thinnest foldable smartphones in the world. When folded, its body thickness is 9.9 mm, and when unfolded, it is only 4.7 mm.

The external OLED panel of the device is almost indistinguishable from the screens in traditional smartphones. Its diagonal dimensions reach 6.43 inches, the resolution corresponds to the Full HD+ format (2376x1060 pixels), while the display supports an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120 Hz. The smartphone has a powerful hardware bundle of the eight-core Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, 16 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and a standard 512 GB UFS 4.0 data storage. Honor Magic V2 easily handles any games and applications, but throttling may potentially occur in long-term intensive loads - the limited internal space of the "slim" case affects it.

The model has an excellent triple main camera 50 + 50 + 20 MP (leading stabilized sensor, ultra-wide and telephoto with optical stabilization). In addition, each screen of the device has its own 16 MP selfie camera. The battery with a total capacity of 5000 mAh deserves special praise. Placing it in such a thin case is clearly not an easy task. The smartphone battery supports fast wired charging with a power of 66 W, but cannot be charged wirelessly. And the model does not have any moisture protection for the case - in this respect, the Honor Magic V2 is slightly inferior to its competitors. However, the overall impression of the model is still purely positive.

The Samsung Galaxy Fold6 is both a smartphone and a tablet at the same time. The device's transformability is due to the folding design of the internal display. Moreover, the smartphone also has an external screen.

In the sixth generation of the Fold , the functionality of the artificial intelligence Galaxy AI has been significantly upgraded. It can translate texts and speech on the fly, which will come in handy for advanced photo processing and drawing (including with a pen), and offers many virtual assistants for any occasion. In addition, the smartphone takes good photos with a triple main camera of 50 + 12 + 10 MP format, is equipped with stereo speakers from AKG, wireless communications 5G and Wi-Fi 7. The device's battery with a capacity of 4400 mAh supports fast wired and two-way wireless charging. The icing on the cake is the dust and moisture protection of the case of an atypical IP48 standard (the smartphone is partly protected from dust and completely from water).

The horizontal "clamshell" Xiaomi Mix Fold 4 is a transformable smartphone with two screens - a regular external one and a foldable internal one.

The resolution of the outer panel corresponds to the Full HD+ format (2520x1080 pixels). The top smartphone is supposed to have correspondingly powerful hardware - the model uses an eight-core Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, supported by high-performance Adreno 750 graphics and 12 GB of LPDDR5X RAM. User data is supposed to be stored in the memory of a 256 GB UFS 4.0 drive. A large evaporation chamber is responsible for cooling the "insides".
