Laconic design and reasonable price

The Philips 7 Series TV is the older version of the 50PUS7505. It differs from it in appearance: it has thinner bezels around the 50-inch screen.

Philips 50PUS7605 does not provide Ambilight backlight, which makes it cheaper than analogues both in the brand line and among the main Korean competitors. The TV wins over LG and Samsung in terms of supported HDR formats. In this aspect, it is "omnivorous" and recognizes any video with a high dynamic range, including HDR10 + and Dolby Vision. It is clear that the brightness level of the model corresponds to the initial class and you should not count on the “wow effect”, but the difference against the background of the SDR image will be noticeable.

Contrast and detail

The screen with a resolution of 3840 by 2160 pixels and a 60-Hz matrix is responsible for excellent detail and a fairly smooth video sequence. The image is characterized by natural colour reproduction with calm tones. The backlight is very uniform, so the viewer will not only not encounter flashes, but also have the right to count on high contrast: black colour and its shades look as they should.

Due to the P5 Perfect Picture processor and the Upscaling function, you can count on a pleasant picture both when streaming 4K HDR video and when watching videos of lower definition, such as TV channels (and all current broadcasting standards are supported by the built-in TV tuner).

Proprietary "smart" shell

Multimedia potential Philips 50PUS7605 reveals proprietary platform Saphi. It works quickly, has acquired a clear interface and does not cause any particular complaints in terms of stability. The most popular services and online cinemas are available here, including YouTube and Netflix. But in terms of the wealth of available applications, the OS loses not only to Android, but also to webOS or Tizen.

The Dolby Atmos decoder should give the basic 20-watt speakers a surround sound effect. Of the wired interfaces, there are a pair of USB, 3 HDMI, an optical output and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. To connect to the Internet, in addition to the LAN port, a Wi-Fi 4 module is offered, but its bandwidth may not be enough for streaming 4K video.

In general, the Philips 50PUS7605 is worth a closer look to all those who count on a nice picture and the ability to watch any HDR content without overpayments.
