The French manufacturer Staub began its activities with the production of cast iron pots, with which its name is most associated today. However, the matter was not limited to just this product and over the years of its existence the company has significantly expanded its range, including ceramic dishes and various accessories.

Staub's activities began in 1974 in Turkheim, France, when entrepreneur Francis Staub decided to launch production under his own brand. It should be noted here that he already had considerable experience in selling kitchen utensils. Without any manufacturing facilities of his own, Staub focused solely on marketing and product design, ordering products from the Arthur Martin steel mill. A thoughtful attractive design, as well as a good combination of quality and cost did their job – frying pans and baking dishes of the new brand quickly became popular and the young company managed not only to firmly stand on its feet, but also to begin to absorb competitors. The first was Céramique Culinaire de France, which Staub acquired in 1987. The Nomar foundry followed, giving Staub its own production facilities.

In 2002, the company acquired a Franco-Belgian foundry that had operated in the French city of Merville since 1926. Today, this is where Staub's head office is located. However, as the geography and range expanded, production was no longer limited to Europe and, for the most part, was moved to China.

In June 2008, Staub company was absorbed by the German knife manufacturer Zwilling J. A. Henckels. By that time, the brand’s products were no longer sold only in France; 50% of sales revenue came from foreign markets, including Japan and the USA.
