The American brand KitchenAid specializes in the production of household appliances, the distinctive feature of which is a stylish and recognizable design. All manufactured products belong to the top segment and their cost is very high, even if we are talking about the simplest devices, such as toasters. It should also be noted that this brand is very old; it was founded back in 1919.

However, if we delve into the history of the brand, we learn that in fact it all began even earlier – in 1897, when the Hobart Electric Manufacturing Company (named after the founder Clarence Charles Hobart) appeared, specializing in various equipment for food production, designed for small and medium businesses. The company was one of the first in the US market to produce kitchen appliances powered by electric motors, which were still a novelty in the late 19th century.

In 1914, a company engineer Herbert Johnston developed a model of a stand mixer with the simple name H-5. The device turned out to be very successful and reliable, even the military pay attention to it – these mixers were installed in the galleys of Tennessee-class battleships, which were later used in the battles of World War II. Subsequently, the company's mixers became standard on US warships.

The success of the first model convinced Hobart management to begin active work in this direction. In 1918, it was decided not to limit production exclusively to professional solutions, but to try producing equipment for home use. A new model, the C-10, was introduced and a year later the KitchenAid trademark was registered. In 1922, the C-5 model appeared, the specific feature of which was its smaller dimensions and a 5-liter bowl. Since such equipment had not yet become commonplace in the kitchens of ordinary consumers of those years, the company put a lot of effort into promoting it, launching a very advanced and aggressive (for those years) advertising campaign.

Another significant event occurred in 1930, when the K model was introduced, in the development of which industrial designer Egmont Ahrens took part. The rounded shape he created became the hallmark of KitchenAid, it is still used today and has even been registered as a trademark. Initially, all models were exclusively white, but later other colour options appeared; red design is especially popular today.

In 1949, the company decided not to limit KitchenAid to mixers alone and introduced the first dishwasher. Then in 1985 the first cookstoves appeared (the Chambers Company was taken over for this purpose). Then there were food processors, blenders and other kitchen appliances. Today the range includes dozens of items.

Since 1986, KitchenAid has been owned by the famous American company Whirlpool Corporation – the brand was sold for $150 million. As for Hobart Manufacturing Company, since 2001 it has been part of the Illinois Tool Works Food Equipment Group corporation.
