— the most popular brand of premium mechanical switches. Cherry was founded in the USA, is now based in Germany, and it released the first “mechanics” models back in the early 1980s; the same manufacturer has set standards for colour separation (see "Switch Type"). In general, Cherry MX mechanics are not cheap, but the workmanship is quite consistent with the price. In particular, all switches within the keyboard are identical in quality and feel when used; and the design often uses gold-plated contacts that are not afraid of corrosion — thanks to this, if liquid gets in, it is enough to rinse and dry the keyboard.Cherry MX's direct competitor is Gateron (see relevant paragraph)
