RAID 1

— an array of two disks that are an exact copy of each other (the principle of mirroring). This significantly increases the reliability of information storage: the probability of its loss is halved, because. even if one of the disks fails, all content remains available (and without undue load on the remaining disk). Also, RAID 1 provides a noticeable increase in read speed. However, you pay for double reliability with twice the cost of disk space: the useful volume of such an array is equal to the volume of one drive, while you have to pay for two.
