The developer is a fine metal powder, the particles of which transfer the toner (see the relevant paragraph) to the printer's photoconductor. Unlike toner, developer is not consumed during printing; and the need to replace it is due to the fact that as it is used, the powder loses the necessary properties and the print quality decreases. Such a replacement, usually, must be carried out in specialized service centres.
