Semi-acoustic guitars
— a type of electric guitar that has special resonator cavities inside the body. Distinctive external features of such instruments are, firstly, the increased thickness of the body, and secondly, the presence of characteristic cutouts in the upper deck. In addition, they are usually made in classic cases (see "Case shape"), often in retro style. The sound of semi-acoustic guitars is closer to conventional acoustics (which, of course, affects the sound processed by "gadgets"); they are considered specialized "genre" instruments and are prized in jazz and blues in particular.Note that some models can be fully played even without connection, like a regular acoustic guitar (although not all — it depends on the size and shape of the resonators). However, such guitars are fundamentally different from traditional "acoustics" with built-in pickups: in semi-acoustic guitars, pickups use a different principle of operation, they are installed from the outside of the body, and in terms of the use of "semi-acoustics" they are closer to electric guitars.
