Therefore, the internal pockets of this form factor are intended mainly for laptops; classic a variant of such an accessory is an adapter for installing a drive in an optical drive slot.In PC models, this option has not received much distribution — modern desktops usually have not only 3.5-inch, but also 2.5-inch drive bays; ”(see“ Purpose — for PC ”), for a number of reasons, it is more convenient to use 3.5" solutions (see above). But for servers, internal pockets of this form factor are produced — for several slots; they are usually also a "skid" chassis.
Regarding external models of this format, it should be said that they are noticeably smaller than their 3.5" counterparts, however, 2.5" drives are more expensive per gigabyte of capacity (especially with large volumes).
As for models that support both 3.5" and 2.5" media, such versatility is usually achieved through removable plugs that allow you to tightly install 2.5" components into 3.5" slots. Note that there may be fewer such devices than slots — for example, a docking station with 3 slots can be equipped with just one plug. In addition, the “2.5"/3.5" marking is also found in another type of pocket — internal adapters for installing 2.5" drives in 3.5" desktop slots.
