First, let's say a few words about the reverse osmosis method. The liquid molecules pass through a special membrane that holds "foreign" substances dissolved in the liquid at the molecular level. Therefore, the degree of water purification is very high (the best at home). The water is purified from bacteria and viruses, chlorine and other dangerous substances like nitrates, arsenic, lead, etc. More thorough filtering also affects the speed of the process – such cleaning is slower than using filters of a simple design. Therefore, models with reverse osmosis have a tank that provides a supply of 6-12 liters of purified water even in the temporary absence of water supply. At the same time, you can simultaneously use tap water for washing dishes and filtered water for drinking and cooking (an additional tap is installed on the sink in the kitchen).

Barrier K-Osmos

Barrier K-Osmos is a relatively inexpensive version of a reverse osmosis filter. This model is a product of the Russian manufacturer "BARRIER". This means prompt maintenance, in particular repair and replacement of cartridges. In addition, you will have no problems finding and buying consumables. The membranes in such filters usually work without replacement for one year, and other modules need to be changed more often (see the insert "Consumables"). By the way, according to the assessment of the Union of National Business Ratings, this company received the "Leader of Russia 2014" award.

Barrier K-Osmos provides 4 stages of water purification – a cartridge for rough mechanical cleaning, a carbon filter, a membrane and a carbon postfilter that gives the water a pleasant taste and smell. This option is suitable for areas with relatively good water quality. In places where the level of pollution is elevated, you can take a model with three stages of purification. However, the K-Osmos model has good indicators of the smallest size of the screened foreign particles, which allows it not to miss the smallest elements.

The Barrier K-Osmos water purification rate is common for this kind of filters (0.13 L/min), and, like other models in our selection, it is equipped with a storage tank volume. The capacity of 8.3 liters is usually quite enough for a family of 3 or 4 people. If it is necessary to prepare a festive banquet for many dishes, then it is worth making a supply of purified water in advance. The water supply rate from the storage tank is 3 L/min. The working resource of the model is 5K liters, which is equivalent to 5-6 months of use for a family of three people.

The minimum and maximum operating pressure of the model is 3 and 7 atmospheres, respectively. The water temperature at which the filter is able to function normally ranges from 5 to 35 °C. According to these parameters, the system is suitable for most urban residents.

Aquaphor DWM-101 Morion M

Like the previous model, Aquaphor Morion M has 4 stages of purification, which is enough for most east european settlements. The smallest particle size filtered out by the filter is 5 microns. This indicator is not an perfect option and is better in a number of more expensive models, but it provides cleaning from 99% of unnecessary elements. Anyway, there will be much less fine particles in the purified water than in the "jug" type filters and flow models.

The main feature of Aquaphor Morion M is the water mineralizer included in its design. It is a special container with a slowly dissolving mixture. Thanks to him, in the process of straining, water is enriched with micronutrients (fluorine, potassium, calcium, iron and others) in the quantities necessary for the body. The use of such mineralized water, according to the company's specialists, has a beneficial effect on health.

Another side of the presence of a mineralizer is the taste of water. Many do not use reverse osmosis filters due to the fact that filtering through the osmosis membrane deprives water of minerals and thus makes it tasteless. Aquaphor Morion M will appeal to such people, because the result is not only pure water, but also with a mild (barely noticeable) taste.

Aquaphor Morion M is equipped with a storage tank with a volume of 5 liters. On the one hand, this makes it relatively compact (37x42x19 cm) and simplifies installation under the sink. And on the other hand, it allows you to fill the tank quickly enough (it will take about an hour at a speed of 0.13 L/min). The maximum operating temperature of the water is 45 °C, and the operating pressure range is not too large – from 3 to 5 atmospheres. Therefore, it is worth making sure that the characteristics of the water supply system correspond to the model. Otherwise, due to low pressure, the filter can slowly purify the water, and too much pressure can accelerate the wear of the prefilters. The check will be done by a master from companies that sell such systems using a special device.

Like the previous participant of the review, Aquaphor Morion M is a Russian-made model (AQUAPHOR company). Therefore, you will not have any problems with the selection and replacement of filter elements.

Gejzer Prestige P

The most expensive model in our review Gejzer Prestige P differs from others by a more "advanced" cleaning system. It includes 5 stages – there are three pre-filters instead of two. This makes it possible to carefully filter out a wide range of micronutrients: active chlorine, phenol, pesticides, nitrates, cadmium, petroleum products, organic impurities, colloidal iron and heavy metal ions. The cut–off index of pollutants in the model is average — the smallest particle size that can be eliminated is 5 microns.

It is worth noting the rather high performance characteristics of the Gejzer Prestige P. So, this filter has a very solid working resource – 6K liters: for a family of three people, this will be up to 8 months of use without replacing consumables. This indicator was achieved thanks to the use of membranes with an increased resource of imported production. The use of the latest technologies provides the membrane with increased protection from the effects of iron and hardness salts. The storage tank of the model is also very large – a 12-liter capacity will ensure the availability of purified water around the clock, even for four people.

The Gejzer Prestige P, like the rest of the review models, has an average liquid filtration rate (0.14 L/min) and normally works with water heated to 40 °C. Therefore, it is adapted for installation in our apartments. The filter can also boast a wide range of operating pressure – from 3 to 8 atmospheres. Despite this, a special household pump is provided in the design. If there is insufficient pressure in the water supply system, it automatically starts and normalizes it to the desired level.

Gejzer Prestige P is a development of the Geyser company, which was the first in Russia to launch filters back in 1986. Consumables

High-quality work of osmosis systems is provided by timely replacement of cartridges. There are several such elements in multi-stage filters, and the failure of any of them will not only negatively affect the quality of purified water, but may also cause incorrect operation of other components. Each model has its own indicators, which can be found out from their descriptions. Prefilter cartridges that collect most particles and bacteria (depending on the water quality) should be changed in a period of usually 3 to 8 months. Otherwise, the reverse osmosis membrane may be damaged – it is vulnerable to chlorine, iron, etc. The most important and expensive replacement module is the membrane. It lasts longer than the other components, and it should be changed once a year. The mineralizer unit changes on average once a year. Of course, replacement can occur more often in order to saturate the liquid with minerals, but it is not recommended to change this component more often than once every six months. The carbon postfilter needs to be changed after about six months of use.
