The Host Memory Buffer (HMB) feature uses PCI Express DMA (Direct Memory Access), allowing SSDs to share a portion of the DRAM in the PC system, rather than requiring the SSD to have its own DRAM.
Gigabyte AORUS Gen4 5000E is Gigabyte's new generation of compact M.2 SSD with PCI-E 4.0 4x support and high starting speeds. The model is included in the Aorus profile line of 2023, belongs to the middle price segment and, according to the manufacturer, is the best option for laptops and ultrabooks. The thing is that the manufacturer managed to reduce the power consumption of the device by more than 30%, thanks to which the drive heats up much weaker than most of its counterparts with PCI-E 4.0 bus support, does not suffer from throttling and therefore does not need an additional heatsink.
The drive was manufactured using 3D TLC NAND flash memory with speeds up to 1600 MT/s per pin. For the 500 GB model, the manufacturer promises sequential read speeds of up to 5000 MB/s and sequential write speeds of up to 3800 MB/s. The speed of work with random read and write operations is not specified. With support for Host Memory Buffer technology, the drive's management controller can handle host DRAM without compromising performance. In addition, the drive supports all the necessary SSD technologies including TRIM, SMART and Over-Provision.
