You can get acquainted with the detailed characteristics of the models from the selection in the summary table pens for three-dimensional drawing. The entire range of current offers with filters for finding the desired solution is presented in the full catalog of 3D pens. And about five more serious brothers of pens are described in the article "Factory of things at home: TOP 5 3D printers".

Mediocre build quality, the power adapter is not always included in the package.

In shape and size, the brainchild of Myriwell resembles a large marker. However, the more developed functionality of the device is immediately given by the display, ventilation holes in the case and a set of keys on one of the faces.

The front part of the handle is covered with a removable cap, which protects the nozzle from contamination during storage and prevents burns in case of touching the heated heating element after the end of drawing. Instead of a rod, the 3D pen uses PLA or ABS plastic with a thread thickness of 1.75 mm. The supply of plastic thread can be automated or organized in one of four speed modes.

Before you start creating three-dimensional drawings, you will need to specify the type of plastic intended for use and wait for the heating element to warm up to the required temperature. The readiness of the model for operation is signaled by a green LED indicator, for which there was a place near the display. The screen on board the Myriwell RP100C is installed for a reason — printing parameters and temperature are displayed on it. Operating temperature values range from 180 to 260 °C.

For safety reasons, the device automatically turns off after 2 minutes of inactivity. A separate line pleases the complete cable for the supply to the power handle — it hides in a tape measure, which prevents entanglement of wires. Slightly upsetting is only the imperfect build quality of the model, but it can be safely neglected against the background of other advantages of the 3D pen from a functional point of view.

The handle for creating plastic crafts from Dewang is presented on the market in two versions: the version with a white cap uses PCL plastic as a raw material, which melts at a temperature of 70-100 °C, and with a black tip — ABS and PLA plastic (they will need heating up to about 200 °C).

The model is assembled on a plastic frame, which is covered with a durable aluminium body. The Dewang X4 fits into the hand like a glove. The whole process of controlling the operation of the handle is assigned to three buttons in its equipment: the settings key and the two-position switch for automatic plastic feeding (forward / backward). In the temperature selection mode, the last control is used to manually enter the desired degree of heating of the melting element.

The parameters of the handle are displayed on a small display. In particular, it shows the type of plastic used, the selected feed rate and the current temperature value along with the maximum. The model supports working with plastic threads with a diameter of 1.75 mm, which at the outlet of the nozzle turns into a thin and even line 0.6 mm in diameter.

The pen receives power via a USB cable, i.e. it can work both when connected to a laptop and in the field, borrowing energy from an external battery. In some cases, the package includes an adapter for 230 V mains operation. However, its absence should not be upset — any similar power supply for charging mobile phones with an output voltage of 5 V. The handle will appeal to both the younger generation and teenagers, and the ability to choose the temperature regime and the automatic plastic feeding function turns it into a serious tool for realizing creative potential.

Uncomfortable grip in the hand.

The American company Polaroid, which has made a name for itself on instant printing cameras, decided to try itself in the field of creating large-scale drawings and, frankly, the start in a new field turned out to be successful. But let's not get ahead of ourselves and focus on all the features of the Polaroid PLAY pen in more detail.

Instead of ink, the 3D pen is filled with a plastic thread with a diameter of 1.75 mm, which melts under the influence of heating the tip. Plastic is made suitable for drawing three-dimensional objects on hard surfaces and just in the air. You can even draw on the smartphone screen, having previously laid a protective glass on it and running the Polaroid Trace App with an abundance of stencils to create simple and complex 3D shapes.

The handle works simply — there are only a few keys on its plump side, which you can understand the purpose of on an intuitive level. A pair of mechanical switches performs the function of adjusting the feed rate of the PLA thread, and another button provides manual and automatic plastic feeding. After 10 minutes of inactivity (with active power supply), the handle returns the entered thread automatically.

The complete set of the model, in addition to the handle itself, includes a stand for its vertical parking, a power cable with a USB connector and 4 coils of plastic threads of green, red, black and transparent colours. Additionally, you can purchase a set of 20 skeins of different colours (5 m each), which includes 4 fluorescent plastic threads. With him, the flight of creative fantasies becomes almost limitless, and besides, there will be enough of such a number of consumables for a long period of time.

Easy to learn, printing from non-toxic biodegradable PLA plastic, collapsible housing.

Minimal functionality, clogged nozzle, uncomfortable grip in the hand.

The field of 3D printing is only in its infancy, but the Taiwanese company XYZprinting has already succeeded in producing a variety of devices for volume printing. Both the brand's 3D printers and pens for creating large-scale drawings are popular.

Unfortunately, the XYZprinting da Vinci 3D Pen is not convenient for grasping in the hand, especially when it comes to small children's pens. Nevertheless, it is convenient to use it — the handle does not need to be adjusted before work, and only two keys are involved in controlling the supply of a plastic thread with a diameter of 1.75 mm: forward and backward. The model works only with harmless PLA-plastic — a non-toxic and biodegradable material. The power supply to the handle is carried out from a conventional outlet using a complete power supply.

The case of the 3D pen is collapsible, which is made for ease of maintenance and the possibility of removing stuck plastic. The supply of plastic thread is carried out slowly and at the same time non-stop. The drawing is given volume by the method of surfacing — paper, wood, glass and other surfaces can serve as a canvas for it, you can also draw directly in the air, relying on your own imagination.

In the reviews of the model, complaints about the nozzle clogging often appear, which leads to the failure of the heating element. However, with proper care and periodic cleaning of the plastic supply channel with a special device, the problem is nullified, and the handle leaves entirely positive emotions from use.

Easy to learn, plastic feed rate adjustment, heating indication, cleaning kit included.

There are no significant disadvantages.

Funds for the production of the first of its kind three—dimensional 3Doodler pen were collected by the whole world on a crowdfunding platform not so long ago — in 2013. Two years after the initial version was launched into the series, the second generation of the model with the Create prefix saw the light — "finished to the mind" and more convenient to handle.

There is nothing superfluous in the design of the pen, so it is easy to make friends with it for both adults and children, for whom the model can become a worthy alternative to plasticine and ordinary drawing. The 3Doodler Create solid metal case is armed with a pair of thread feed rate adjustment keys and a slider for switching the types of plastic used. Organic PLA plastic melts at a lower temperature (up to 200 °C), and to work with high-strength ABS plastic, you will need to warm up the spout of the device to a maximum temperature of 230 °C.

It is convenient to control the degree of readiness of the handle for operation according to the colour indication: a red light indicates the process of heating the tip, green indicates that the required temperature has been reached for working with PLA plastic, and blue indicates that the heating element has been heated to the maximum temperature. The pen is unpretentious to drawing surfaces — plastic does not cling very well only to glass.

Consumables for creating three-dimensional drawings should have a thread diameter of 3 mm. When the plastic gets stuck in the channel, a complete set of miniature tools for cleaning it comes to the rescue. Also, the removable spout is subject to cleaning from carbon deposits, but before carrying out this procedure, it is necessary to wait for the sting to cool down. Having become the creator of the first-of-its-kind pen for large-scale drawing, the startup 3Doodler has turned into a full-fledged player setting the pace of development of the industry and has not lost its position with the emergence of a mass of worthy alternatives.
