Braun electric shavers: features of the series and decoding of the marking
We independently test the products and technologies that we recommend.

Braun engineers never rest on their laurels, but continuously improve their products by incorporating the latest technological solutions into them. The lineup is constantly updated with new products and sometimes it is not so easy to understand this variety. A feature of Braun electric shavers is that all models of the brand have a grid design, suggesting direct linear movements, which are much more efficient than the circular passes of rotary devices.
The first series of Braun electric shavers
The entire line of Braun men's stubble care products fit into six series of products that differ in equipment, features, equipment and level of comfort. Each subsequent series presented to the consumer means another round of evolutionary development, introducing something new and perfect into shaving technology.

Braun's Series 1 shavers are the company's entry-level shavers, featuring a simple design and low price. There are two options for equipping shaving heads. Early models in the series featured a single wide floating Free Float foil with 2-D adaptation to the contours of the face, while later models 195, 197 and 197 featured a 2-foil triple shaving system with an intermediate trimmer.
The devices of the series received an additional retractable trimmer to adjust the contours of the mustache, beard and sideburns. These shavers, depending on the model, are designed for mains and battery operation and, due to their simplicity and reliability, will be an excellent replacement for a razor. All Series 1 devices have an IPx7-rated housing and are completely waterproof, allowing you to rinse the product under running water. Laconic equipment of devices is quite predictable and does not raise any questions.

The Braun Series 3 range of electric shavers has been improved over its predecessor and improved in design and functionality. The three-piece shaving system, including 2 SensoFoils and an intermediate trimmer, provides a smooth 3D movement along the contour of the face, carefully cutting the hairs of the beard.
The device was equipped with a simple battery status indicator, the battery charge time was reduced to an hour, and there was a quick 5-minute charge for one shave. The series has retained the ability to choose models for dry and wet shaving, and a soft case has come to replace the brush.

For the first time, Braun Series 5 electric shavers feature a new design concept with a clear separation of body and cutting head, as well as a dedicated control panel unit, found in all subsequent series. The devices have acquired sensitive AutoSense sensors that can adjust the power of the electric motor in accordance with the curves of the face and the density of the stubble being shaved.
Precise travel of the triple shaving head with 2 SensoFoils and UltraActiveLift trimmer is ensured by free movement in 8 directions and the MultiHeadLock locking system at one of 5 possible tilt angles. Unlike the dry 52S cassette, the new 51S lather head uses OptiBlades to cut even deeper. The three-level indicator shows the battery charge status, the level of soiling of the razor and the shaver is blocked during transport. The powerful battery allowed to increase the battery life of the razor up to 50 minutes. Another important difference of the series was the appearance in the kit of the first 4-stage cleaning station Clean & Charge, which puts the shaving head in order.

The Braun Series 7 luxury line is characterized by the introduction of Sonic intelligent high-frequency vibration technology, which is a groundbreaking breakthrough for the series. The cutting elements of the head, which carry out up to 10 thousand microvibrations per minute, allow for one movement of the 4 elements of the shaving system to cope with the work that the predecessors required two passes.
8-D Flexible shaving head with MacroMotion swivel technology and MicroMotion independent suspension provides hair cutting precision up to 0.05mm. Users were also able to appreciate the programmatic choice of 5 built-in shaving modes ranging from gentle to turbo. All Series 7 units offer Wet&Dry dry and wet shaves. They are equipped with a “smart” charging cable, and a number of models received an updated Clean & Charge station for cleaning and recharging.

The premium series Braun Series 8 for the first time received an even serial number, which hints at belonging to the intermediate line. Its models stand out with the addition of Sonic advanced vibration and glide systems and advanced AutoSense stubble detection sensors on the powerful 32-bit electronic chip of the 8D Flex floating head with 4 active elements of the new 83M cassette. The Precision Head Lock system makes it easy to trim difficult areas, while the pop-up trimmer makes it easy to trim the final contours after shaving.
This series is the first to feature the new Pro Multi-Function Display, providing the ultimate in information for a comfortable shave. Ergonomic design with precise positioning of each component makes the device intuitive to use. The maximum equipment of the device includes an updated and simplified version of the Clean & Charge cleaning station with a replaceable cartridge and a charging station.

And, finally, the crown of engineering excellence of German developers was the Braun Series 9, which is by far the most innovative line of electric shavers from the company. The models of the top series, addressed to the most demanding consumers, embody all the latest industry technologies.
Now let's take a specific example of the markings and meanings of numbers and letters in the name of the Braun Series 9 9242s model.

Everything is clear with the brand and product line series. The main thing is hidden in the alphanumeric marking of the model:
- The first digit duplicates the series number already noted in the name. Prior to the Braun Series 7, three-digit coding was adopted;
- The second digit indicates the revision number (generation) of the electric shaver. Braun Series 9 includes models of 3 generations: 0, 2 and 3;
- The last two digits indicate the color, configuration and region of delivery. In most cases, it is not easy to find out these details offhand by a two-digit number on your own;
- The letters at the end of the digital code determine the features of the configuration of the models with a self-cleaning station. There are 2 letter marking options: the letters “cc” can be seen in models equipped with Clean & Charge shaving unit cleaning stations. And devices with the index "s" (Solo) are shipped without it. It is important to consider that if the model does not provide a self-cleaning station, then by purchasing it to expand the functionality of the device, you will not achieve anything. Solo models simply lack an electronic chip to interact with the station. A distinctive feature of the updated Clean & Charge 93xx self-cleaning station is the additional function of drying the shaving head after washing.
As can be seen from the considered example, Braun electric shavers have a rather non-obvious and discordant classification, which complicates the decoding of the model code. In order to understand how to recognize its features by marking a razor, it should be noted that in the “nine” this is largely determined by the generation of the series. So, for example, the first generation line made it possible to choose a model for wet or dry shaving. The latter were distinguished by a lower price and the ability to receive power not only from the battery, but also from the network. Devices of the 2nd and 3rd revisions provided only wireless operation and were created for universal shaving dry or with foam. However, there were exceptions here: the 9250cc model remained the only one in the line that retained the past privileges of dry shaving.

With razors of the third revision 93xx, it became possible to use three types of cutting blocks: the previous versions 92s and 92b, as well as the new 92M, which is visually distinguished from the previous ones by the HyperLift & Cut trimmer with a “gold-plated” titanium nitride coating. In addition, the new razor cartridge features 2 OptiFoils, a Direct & Cut trimmer and a SkinGuard that define the 10D Flex's gentle, adaptive movement around the face. The ultrasonic linear motor with high vibration frequency and up to 40,000 cutting strokes cuts hairs up to 0.05 mm high for an exceptional shave. And the jet-black color of the Graphite case of the 3rd generation models pleased the aesthetes of a strict, refined style.
Not without changes to the LED Display Pro: the blue backlight has become white, and 5 characters display the charge level, the remaining time at minimum battery capacities, the lock during transport, the need for cleaning and connection to the mains. Devices began to be equipped with a 20% more capacious battery, increasing battery life up to 60 minutes (models of the 0th and 2nd revision worked up to 50 minutes).
