Details about tyre designations are described in the material "Marking tyres from A to Z". It also briefly outlines the principles for applying information to old Euro-labels, which are a mandatory attribute of all factory tyre products. They have been operating since 2012.

The new labeling standards provide for a number of complex changes aimed at improving the visualization of parameters and providing the most complete information on tyres.

QR code

The first most important innovation on the label is the appearance of a QR code in the upper right corner. When it is scanned, a tyre card opens in a single database EPREL(European Product Database for Energy Labelling - European Register of Products for Energy Efficiency Labeling). The information sheet duplicates the information from the euro label, contains information about the start and end dates of the production of a particular tyre model. The registry is accessible through a public web page. The base was created in order to control the market and comply with the rules and regulations of the European Union by manufacturers. Tyre vendors must independently enter product data into the registry before the products appear on the market.

Bus Information

In separate columns above the visual blocks, fields with basic information about the tyre have been added : its model, brand, size, speed and load indices (carrying capacity), manufacturer's article. For better readability, all information is collected in two lines that are easy to see.

Visual improvements in the new edition of the euro labels for tyres are visible to the naked eye.

Fuel economy and wet grip

According to the ranks of fuel efficiency and wet grip performance, the number of gradations was reduced from 7 to 5. In the new version of the marking, they are designated by letters of the Latin alphabet from A to E. Tyres, which in the previous version of the Eurolabel belonged to the E-class, “moved” to class D. And models with marks F and G were united under the auspices of class E.

Classification according to the ranks of fuel efficiency of tyres in the newly minted marking has decreased from 7 positions to 5.

The A value of the tyre's fuel efficiency parameter indicates low rolling resistance, which helps to reduce fuel consumption. Conversely, models with the D and E indexes expend more energy when driving, which affects the increase in fuel consumption (by about 0.1 l per 100 km between adjacent gradations).

The short braking distance of a tyre on a wet road surface is indicated by the grip index A. The marking E is applied to models with an extended braking distance.

Wet grip is indicated by classes A to E, where A is the shortest braking distance and E is the longest braking distance.

The difference between neighboring categories is one or two vehicle lengths when braking from a speed of 80 km/h.

Acoustic comfort

The degree of acoustic comfort in the new edition of the stickers is indicated in decibels and is supported by the symbols of classes A, B, C. Previously, marking the level of external noise involved the application of three sound waves. The class of external tyre noise during rolling is determined by the maximum permissible values, which are prescribed in the norms of the European Union. The breakdown here is roughly as follows:

  • class A - value 3 dB below the maximum allowable;
  • class B - a value between A and the maximum allowable;
  • class C - the indicator is more than the maximum allowable.
Instead of the designation of shaded sound waves, a new marking of the noise threshold was introduced with the letters of the Latin alphabet A, B and C.

The noise level indicator depends on the type of tyres ( passenger, cargo for minibuses, etc.), profile width, seasonality. For example, for winter tyres, the maximum permissible noise threshold is increased by 1 dB in comparison with summer tyres.

Grip on snow and ice

Winter tyres henceforth received two new pictograms at once in the lower right corner of the euro label. A mountain with three peaks and a snowflake indicates that the tyre is suitable for use on snowy roads. The presence of such a marking implies that the tyre has passed the appropriate tests.

The pictograms of "snow" and "ice grip" are one of the innovations in the updated design of euro labels for tyre products.

A triangle with cracked ice inside is placed on tyre labels that are able to provide proper grip on an icy road surface. In this case, "ice grip" indicates a short braking distance on ice.

___

The above parameters apply only to new tyres. As wear and long-term storage, the characteristics of tyre products may change, so the information on the euro label still does not claim to be the ultimate truth. As before, comprehensive data regarding the model you like can be obtained from the results of independent tyre tests.

Also, the new labeling principles do not apply to certain categories of tyres. In particular, this comb does not include racing models, retreaded tyres, "spare tyres" and wheels for vintage cars.

Euromarking of tyres of a new type is designed to help buyers choose more economical tyres, get the necessary information about the braking properties and the level of acoustic comfort of tyre products.
