Best Folding E-Bikes for the City
We independently test the products and technologies that we recommend.

Maxxter Ruffer - a folding bike of the new era with an electric drive. Besides, absolutely everything in the model folds and unfolds: the frame, handlebar, seat, pedals. In the folded state, the bike easily fits into the trunk of an ordinary sedan, and thanks to the carrying handle, it is conveniently brought into the elevator.
The bike is focused on trips in the rhythm of city life. On the rear wheel of the city bike, there is a brushless electric motor with a power of 250W, allowing for a travel speed of up to 25 km/h. It could be faster, but the speed mode "ceiling" is limited by electronics for safety. Speed is not displayed on the onboard computer - it serves to display the remaining battery charge level.
The main operating mode of the electric drive is PAS (Pedal Assist System), i.e., assistance in pedaling. It is in this mode that the bike can cover a distance of up to 40 km with the help of electric traction. Using the classic throttle on the handlebar, the bike's range on a single battery charge is significantly reduced. The model also boasts a 7-speed transmission from Shimano components and reliable disc brakes.
The bike is truly well-equipped. Just judge for yourself, the bike is delivered on 20-inch wheels, has a rear rack, fenders, chain protection, a parking stand, a bell, and lighting equipment. The only complaint about the model is its substantial weight (23 kg in full "gear"). However, full-size city bike counterparts weigh significantly more - for its size, the electric bike turned out to be quite balanced.

Fiido D11 - a typical urban "dweller" in a folding frame and handlebar version. The ability to compactly fold the structure greatly simplifies the storage of the bike in an apartment and its transportation on public transport or in a car's trunk.
The model is designed in a minimalist style and has nothing superfluous. The front wheel of the bike is mounted on a traditional rigid fork - without a shock absorption system. The overall size of the wheels is 20 inches, and they are shod in classic road tires CST with a tread width of 1.75". These tires are designed for comfortable movement on asphalt roads and pavement tiles.
The main feature of the city bike is an electric drive with a power of 250W connected to the rear wheel. The motor's traction is enough for achieving and maintaining a relatively low speed - about 20 – 25 km/h. The electric drive can operate both independently and as an assistance to pedaling. In eco-mode pedal assistance, the electric range is up to 100 km. Riders can also choose from "Normal" and "Sport" riding modes.
The bike is equipped with a 7-speed transmission from Shimano components, standard mechanical disc brakes, an onboard computer with an info display to show speed, battery charge, and distance traveled. Extras include a kickstand, bike bell, and headlights, but no wheel fenders are included. Riding without them in wet weather is uncomfortable.

The minimalist electric fat bike ENGWE EP-2 Pro 750W is equipped with distinctive thick tires with a width of 4", which are mounted on 20-inch diameter wheels.
Wide tires with a universal tread pattern ensure the all-terrain nature of the model's riding capabilities. The electric bike confidently rides on asphalt or tiled terrains, while also effortlessly handling rough terrains. The maximum carrying capacity of the bike is up to 130 kg.
The ENGWE EP-2 Pro features a sufficiently powerful 750W motor, transmitting torque to the rear drive. Purely on electric traction, the bike can accelerate to 45 km/h and cover a distance of about 40 kg without needing a recharge of the 13 Ah battery. In hybrid mode, with pedal assistance, the range can be approximately doubled - up to 80 km on a full battery charge.
The bike's aluminum frame has two folding points: on the handlebar and in the middle of the body. This makes the electric bike easy to store or transport in a car trunk. However, it is not lightweight - weighing 33.5 kg assembled. The center of the model's handlebar houses an informative onboard computer with a color LCD screen. Additionally, the handlebar holds handles for controlling the mechanical disc brakes and a trigger shifter for switching between 7 speeds.
The extended factory equipment of the electric mini-fat bike deserves special respect. Its wheels are under the "protection" of fenders, a folding kickstand is installed on the left side of the frame, the rear features a luggage rack, and the model also includes a bike bell, a headlight, and a rear tail light. The model's advantages are reinforced by the presence of a comfortable spring-loaded saddle, complementing the front suspension system with a spring-elastomeric fork.

The compact foldable electric bike Fiido M1 Pro has impressive off-road potential. The model's good off-road capability is ensured by thick 4-inch tires.
Off asphalt, the front and seat tube suspensions come to the rider's aid, smoothing the unevenness of the road surface. However, the bike also performs excellently on smooth roads. It features a 7-speed transmission with gear shifting by a trigger shifter on the handlebar.
The bike's electric motor is connected to the rear drive. The 500W motor allows for traveling speeds up to 40 km/h. In full electric mode, the bike covers over 30 km on a single battery charge. With pedal assist from the electric drive, the range is up to 130 km. Aboard computer on the bike's handlebar serves to monitor parameters.
The model features a foldable frame, standard lighting equipment, a parking stand, and chain protection. However, wheel fenders are not provided in the factory setup - they will need to be purchased separately. Finally, it's important to mention the low-maintenance disc brakes with mechanical activations on the brake pads. The brakes are installed on the front and rear wheels of the electric city bike.
The small electric bike 2E EB16 will serve as an excellent choice for the urban pace of cycling trips with occasional forays into rough terrain.
Despite its compact folding design, the bike endures quite serious loads — the model is rated for a rider weight of up to 150 kg. The city bike's frame is made of aluminum alloy and set on 20-inch wheels encased in wide 4-inch tires with an all-terrain tread pattern.
The model contains a 500W electric motor with torque transmission to the rear wheel. The engine is powered by a 15 Ah battery. A full battery charge suffices to cover a distance of up to 45 km. Meanwhile, the bike can develop a travel speed of up to 45 km/h. A 7-speed transmission is provided for selecting the optimal riding mode.
The bike is equipped with a front spring-elastomer fork and hydraulic disc brakes with excellent modulation. On its handlebar, there is an onboard computer and a bike bell, wheels are covered with mudguards, a luggage rack is provided at the rear, and on the left side, there is a parking stand. The manufacturer has also equipped its brainchild with a headlight and a rear flashing light. The city bike is ready for rides straight "out of the box."
