The updated 2023 line of MacBook Air has seen Apple replace the traditional 13-inch ultrabooks with full-fledged 15-inch laptops featuring passive cooling. However, Apple would not be Apple if it did this without a reason: according to the company, the MacBook Air 2023 is the thinnest and most compact laptop with a 15-inch display. The new model has a thickness of 11.5 mm, weighs 1.51 kg, and has body dimensions of 34 x 24 x 1 cm.
This is noticeably smaller than the 16-inch MacBook Pro and only slightly larger than the 13-inch Air. Additionally, the 2023 upgrade included enhancements to the audio system (six Dolby Atmos speakers instead of four), the webcam (higher quality noise reduction), and the charging port (MagSafe 3 magnetic port). Despite the increased screen area, the maximum battery life remains at 18 hours.
All Apple MacBook Air 2023 laptops feature signature Liquid Retina displays with a resolution of 2880x1864 pixels, high peak brightness of 500 nits, a 60 Hz refresh rate, and support for True Tone technology, which automatically adjusts the image based on the room's lighting intensity. Excellent computational performance is ensured by the updated M2 processor, which is even faster than the M1, which had already established itself as one of the best mobile platforms on the market.
Although this is not a MacBook Pro, the Air 2023 is capable of easily handling professional resource-intensive tasks, including photo and video editing (up to 8K ProRes), creating orchestrations with 100+ tracks in, say, Logic Pro, etc. Depending on the configuration, RAM can be 8, 16, or 24 GB, while the built-in SSD capacity starts at 256 GB and goes up to more than 2 TB. As is traditional for the series, additional features include a Touch ID fingerprint scanner, a FaceTime webcam, fast charging, the signature Force Touch trackpad, and a wireless module supporting Wi-Fi 6 + Bluetooth 5.2. As is also traditional for Apple, the number of ports is limited to a pair of USB4 ports with Thunderbolt interface support.
